Buddy Woodward Biography

Americana music veteran Buddy Woodward is an award-winning songwriter, singer, band leader, multi-instrumentalist, producer, side man, studio musician and teacher, with over 25 years experience as a touring and recording professional, with several albums to his credit, and Top 10 hits on Bluegrass and Americana radio.

He was a founding member of seminal 90’s alt.country whiz kids The Ghost Rockets, and NYC honky-tonkers Buddy Woodward & The Nitro Express (“as explosive – and polished – a hard honky-tonk outfit as you’ll find around New York” — Barry Mazor, The Village Voice), was a featured performer in the long-running Alphabet City Opry, as well as having played and/or recorded with Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Laura Cantrell, Jim Lauderdale, Eric Brace & Peter Cooper, John Starling, The Coal Porters, The Know Escape, Pete Mancini, Smalltown Parade, Rick Clark, and Butchers Blind, among many others.

In 2003 Buddy co-founded The Dixie Bee-Liners, known throughout the United States and beyond for their original material and onstage chemistry. Combining bluegrass and old-time mountain music with folk-rock, blues and power pop influences, the ensemble created a sound “…steeped in tradition, but with tones and rhythms that are very 21st century” (No Depression), released two hit albums (RIPE and Susanville) on Pinecastle Records, and toured nationally and internationally.

As a voice actor, Buddy has extensive credits on dozens of animated cartoons, including Pokemon, and a starring role in the U.S. version of the hit Japanese show Ping-Pong Club, which gained him well-deserved praise for his comic timing and improvisational finesse.

As a stage and television actor, Woodward has appeared in many productions at The Barter State Theatre of Virginia, several episodes of the hit TV series Nashville, and is a proud member of Actor’s Equity.

Buddy uses and endorses the following: D’Addario Strings and Planet Waves, Fishman Transducers, Recording King guitars and banjos, Ratliff Mandolins, Gold Tone Instruments, The Loar mandolins, Johnston Custom Guitars, JangleBox, VHT Amplification, Alclair In-Ear Monitors, Blue Chip picks, Frantone Effects, Tech 21 Effects, Electro-Harmonix, and Kel Audio microphones.
