Pianist Benjamin Powell joins us in Macclesfield for an evening bookended with Mozart divertimentos. He plays Shostakovich's first piano concerto, written in 1933, which sees the trumpet in frequent dialogue with the piano.
Preceding the Shostakovich is Tchaikovsky's Elegy, and we also hear our composer in residence and double bass player James Manson's take on Handel’s Violin sonata in D.
