Desires

As human beings, there are things we need to survive: food, water, an oxygen-based atmosphere and some would argue shelter. However, above and beyond those three (or four) things, everything else in our lives is, more or less, a collection of extraneous wants. These range from basic—i.e., “I want to see a movie today”—to things that truly motivate us—goals, objects and people that fill our souls and spirits with purpose. These are more than just wants; they are desires, and their reflection upon the human spirit make them the ideal namesakes for Detroit’s newest emotional hardcore band. Channeling the sounds of contemporary emotive hardcore bands like Being As An Ocean, La Dispute and Hotel Books, Desires combine spoken word segments and harsh whirlwinds of whimsical, intense instrumentation to create something that truly speaks to the listener’s soul. Founded in late 2015, Desires are a young band—but don’t for a second mistake them as lazy, inexperienced or naïve. Formed by passionate musicians from within the Michigan community, Desires—while established for less than half a year—have been working tirelessly to have something to show for themselves. Spending the three coldest months of Michigan’s grueling winter writing and recording their debut EP, The One You Feed, Desires broke their hibernation in the late days of March, releasing their debut single, “Safe Haven,” mere days before their debut performance, opening for acts like Slaves, Capture the Crown, Myka Relocate and many more at Detroit’s Cthulu Entertainment three-year anniversary festival. With their debut single still fresh in the minds of the heavy music community, Desires aren’t planning on slowing down: a spring and summer full of performances await them in support of The One You Feed’s release—an EP which is sure to make a mark in not just their local scene, but across the United States.
