They are led by Reverend Peyton, who most consider to be the premier finger picker playing today. He has earned a reputation as both a singularly compelling performer and a persuasive evangelist for the rootsy, country blues styles that captured his imagination early in life and inspired him and his band to make pilgrimages to Clarksdale, Mississippi to study under such blues masters as T-Model Ford, Robert Belfour and David “Honeyboy” Edwards. Now The Big Damn Band is back with an explosive new record and world tour. Reverend Peyton's guitar work on the new record Poor Until Payday is phenomenal and howls the blues. Poor Until Payday is a bluesy ode to the blue collar - working class and it delvers in spades! Damon Fowler is a troubadour whose music is steeped with soul and is a collective of many styles that make up the roots of American music. Musicians respect him as a singer songwriter and player so much that he was a feature in Butch Truck’s Freight Train band and was a natural fit for his current side gig as the guitarist in the Dickey Betts Band who just announced the release of his new CD/DVD 'Ramblin' Man Live' featuring Damon on slide guitar. Fowler’s guitar work has been compared to Johnny Winter and Jeff Beck, while his slide guitar has a hint of the late Duane Allman. He can play fiery guitar runs with the best of them, but it’s his lyrical work on lap steel and Dobro that makes him stand out among the legions of guitar heroes. His latest record The Whiskey Bayou Session marks Damon's 7th release. With all the makings of a classic roots record it is Damon's unique guitar, Lap Steel guitar style, soulful vocals and vivid songwriting that stand at the forefront of this recording. Produced by swamp blues master Tab Benoit, “Damon plays what he feels instead of trying to sound like somebody else, and he’s not afraid to try new things on the spot. Each song is going to last forever, and we’re just capturing the moment of creation." The record encompasses many styles that are derived from the roots of Americana, Gospel and Blues while further defining Damon Fowler as one of the great Southern artists of his time.

I have a wide selection of genres i enjoy but generally listen and go to see pretty edgy or metal stuff and even a negative bastard like me could not help but find their love and passion for music to be contagious. The put everything into every single song they play and every single song is a pure delight. Made me a believer in blues music itself being a fresh and alive thing. The opening artist Nat Myers was personable and fantastic to hear as well and I am glad they had him warming up the crowd. I will look forward to seeing more of his stuff and I will certainly take every opportunity to see this Big Damn Band again. Nice collection of guitars old dude plays too.
