Love Canal Biography
LOVE CANAL
In 1982 Love Canal formed from the ashes of 2 prominent punk bands from So Cal, "The Rebellions" and Tony Alvas "Skoundrelz". The first singers were Kristie Balsillie followed by Mike Ball OG guitar player of Suicidal Tendencies, thereafter Mr Kerry left The Skoundrelz and joined Arab, Louie Garcia and Bobby Bop of The Rebellions and the nucleus of Love Canal was birthed.
After several compilation releases on Mystic Records, Insane Industries and a few other independent labels the band was signed to National Trust Records (The Vandals, M.I.A., Dont No, Fang, Doggy Style) for their freshman release "Its A Dogs Life So Blow It Out Yer Ass".
From the bands inception in 1982 the punk scene in california was ripe for new bands, following in the footsteps of their peers from Huntington Beach (T.S.O.L., The Vandals, China White and The Crowd) Love Canal kept the beach punk sound alive. The band played every dump/dive bar, theatre and auditorium on the west coast, playing with the likes of Dead Kennedys, The Dickies, T.S.O.L., The Vandals, The Cult, The Cramps, FEAR, Circle Jerks, X, Social Distortion, Weirdos, Agent Orange, GBH, D.O.A., Exploited, Angry Samoans, J.F.A., CH3, D.R.I., 45 Grave, M.I.A., 7 Seconds, Wasted Youth, Gang Green, Ill Repute, China White, Battalion of Saints to name a few along the way and even headlining the legendary Olympic Auditorium for an Anti Nukes benefit in front of an estimated crowd of 3000 pissed off punks!!!
The band took a few years off only to reform in 2007, in 2011 they were invited to play Goldenvoice Productions 30 Year Anniversary at the Santa Monica Civic, with new songs the band is as good if not better then they were some 30 years ago when 4 young punks from H.B. started a band for fun and free beer.
2017 will see the release of their new album "If it aint broke, Break It!!!" On Hostage Records produced by Cameron Webb (Motorhead, Pennywise, Social Distortion, Ignite, Megadeth, NOFX, Strung Out, Zebrahead, Weazer).
