From an Irish pub to an Academy Award winning movie: The Mahones have come a long way in 27 years. Heralded as pioneers of the Irish punk scene, and internationally recognized as one of the best and hardest working punk outfits around, The Mahones formed on St. Patrick's Day in 1990, and have been working on their own brand of Irish punk ever since. With a working class ethic and a love of classic punk, Dublin-born Finny McConnell formed the band to combine his love of punk rock with his Irish culture. Alongside McConnell are Katie Kaboom, Michael O’Grady, Sean Winter, and Sean "Riot" Ryan. In 2016, Scruffy Wallace re-joined The Mahones after 14 years with Dropkick Murphys.

Traditioneller Folk trifft auf pure Punkrock-Energie – das sind The Porters aus dem Raum Düsseldorf. Seit 2001 zieht die fünfköpfige Band das volle Register zwischen verspielten Melodien auf der Geige und verzerrten Gitarren. Mit Piano, Hammond-Orgel und Mandoline untermalen sie die Atmosphäre einer Ballade oder rocken, bis die Wände wackeln. Heraus kommt ein eigener Sound, der mal an verrauchte Pubs, mal an kernige Punkrock-Schuppen erinnert.
The Porters machen ihr eigenes musikalisches Ding und schütteln jedes Klischee typischer Folk Punks ab. Ihre Songs sind geprägt durch Einflüsse von Punk über 60's Garage und Country bis hin zu Hardrock. Diesen Wurzeln bleibt die Band immer treu. Auf dem aktuellen Album „Rum, Bum & Violina“(Cargo Records,
2012) kommen mehr Country, mehr purer Rock und ein breiteres
Instrumentarium zum Tragen. Im Gegensatz zu den beiden Vorgängern „Anywhere But Home“ (Knock Out Records, 2007) und „A Tribute To Arthur Guinness“ (K.O.R., 2002), die durch Einflüsse aus dem Irish Folk geprägt sind. Egal in welche Richtung sich ihre Musik entwickelt, eins bleibt: Sie geht ins Blut.
Der Porters-eigene Sound, erinnert hier und dort an Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly oder Social Distortion. Dennoch haben sie sich eine Nische geschaffen, die sie souverän ausfüllen.

Traditioneller Folk trifft auf pure Punkrock-Energie – das sind The Porters aus dem Raum Düsseldorf. Die fünfköpfige Band zieht das volle Register zwischen verspielten Melodien auf der Geige und verzerrten Gitarren. Piano, Hammond-Orgel und Mandoline untermalen die Atmosphäre einer Ballade oder rocken was das Zeug hält. Was auch immer – heraus kommt ein eigener Sound, der mal an verrauchte Pubs, mal an kernige Punkrock-Schuppen erinnert.
Beim Vergleich mit typischen Folk Punks wird eines klar: The Porters machen ihr eigenes musikalisches Ding und schütteln jedes Klischee ab. Ihre musikalischen Wurzeln sind breit gefächert und werden nicht verleugnet. So hört man Einflüsse von Punk über 60's Garage und Country bis hin zu Hardrock, und - NEIN - das ist sich nicht im Wege.
Im Januar 2012 wurde ihr neues Album „Rum, Bum & Violina“ veröffentlicht und dort wird eines deutlich: The Porters haben sich weiterentwickelt. Wie seine zwei Vorgänger „Anywhere But Home“ (Knock Out Records, 2007) und „A Tribute To Arthur Guinness“ (K.O.R., 2002) überrascht dieser Longplayer mit einigen soundtechnischen Veränderungen. Mehr Country, mehr purer Rock mit breitem Instrumentarium und weniger Irish Folk. Dennoch ist der Raum für einen vertrauten Gesamteindruck groß.
Alles in allem brauchen The Porters den Vergleichen mit Szenegrößen wie den Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly oder auch den Real McKenzies nicht zu scheuen. Sie haben sich eine Nische geschaffen, die sie souverän ausfüllen, und wovon sie auf zahlreichen internationalen Konzerten ein breites Publikum überzeugen.

rooted in the region of Düsseldorf/Germany. The four lads and one lady pull no punches between playful melodies played on the violin and distorted guitars. Piano, hammond organ and mandolin provide the background for ballads or rock like mad. Anyway, The Porters raise their glasses high to create their own sound sometimes evocating pictures of smokefilled pubs or shabby punk rock clubs.
Forget about the cliche of typical folk punks The Porters create a very own, pleasantly different niche. Their musical roots are widespread and harken back to 60's garage rock, punk rock and country music up to hardrock and – YEAH – it works!
Instead of mouldy steadiness The Porters are in continual development. With their third longplayer „Rum, Bum and Violina“ (Cargo Records, 2012) they proceed with more country music, more pure rock supported by a wide range of instruments. Hence they surprise with many sound based changes as was the case with the preceding album "Anywhere But Home" (Knock Out Records, 2007) compared to the first album "A Tribute To Arthur Guinness" (K.O.R., 2002). Nevertheless they sound familiar as The Porters. This is their niche wich they confidently fit and whereby they inspire a broad audience.
