Phil Barnes Biography
It’s hard to leave a good thing behind. Nine-hundred shows had passed since Phil Barnes first started touring in 2010. He had opened for the likes of Nick Jonas, Kelly Clarkson, Jessie J and We the Kings. A quiet calm had settled over his work as he found himself growing a fanbase along the East coast. “My music had become comfortable to me. I knew things had to change on my end,” Barnes said. Packing up his belongings, he shipped off to Nashville to work with Aaron Krause on his debut album. It was there, that he was placed firmly in the midst of a crossroads. “Aaron took my acoustic guitar away and encouraged me to sit alone in a room with a piano,” Barnes said. “It was a humbling experience initially, but it was through that, that I rediscovered where I was trying to go — I fell in love with production, and moved to Nashville.” Pushing past the norms of a singer-songwriter, 25 year-old Barnes has crafted a triumphant and, sometimes moody, debut record. Calling on the likes of Andrew Belle, Iron and Wine and James Blake, Barnes has recreated himself as a sophisticated songwriter with an intelligence only built from the road. Barnes released Make Like Love on September 9th, 2016, and is currently writing and producing for artists in Nashville and Los Angeles. He will return to the road for select dates in 2018. “I found that by leaving a good thing behind, I found something better.” Phil Barnes is a Songwriter/Producer and Artist based in Nashville, TN. His debut record "Make Like Love" is available now on all streaming platforms.
