Django Reinhardt is and remains the great role model of the Gypsy Swing scene - admirers can be found both in the audience and in active musicians. Even today, 65 years after his death, this scene is still very much alive. In addition to the pure traditionalists, a number of young musicians show how this music can be developed further. David & Danino Weiss and their quartet are a good example of this and have now released their debut album `Violets for your Furs`.How can you imagine the life of a Sinto in this day and age? David Weiss feels firmly rooted in Bavaria and would never leave, firmly rooted in Bavarian culture, he has discovered his personal paradise here.Nevertheless, there are some customs from the families, which are passed on from generation to generation and passed on. So it goes without saying that David Weiss likes to travel and there is no way too far when it comes to having the family meet to revive old traditions.So the way to his uncle Traubeli Weiss, guitarist and bandleader, was never too far and David and Danino Weiss could spend a lot of time with him. The two are self-taught and with the music-theoretical knowledge to which the uncle has given direct access, they have discovered the right path together. Both sides have benefited from each other through this exchange of generations and respectful togetherness.Guests on the album are Giovanni Weiss and Jeffrey Weiss (both Django Deluxe - two-time ECHO Jazz award winners), Biboul Darouiche and Bernd Reiter. Which songs were finally recorded, was partly spontaneously decided the day before the recordings. And from the gut, such as the cover version of `You`re Mine You`. Without long rehearsals, then the first attempt was perfect for the recording.What does this music convey, which originated against this background? It`s almost a language of its own that the quartet can speak fluently. A gentle, unruffled, harmonious, melodious story is told - about camp fire romance, a yearning for freedom, the desire for cohesion. The inclined listener enjoys a dialogue between calm and dynamism. Inspirational to the side stood Art Van Damme, Erroll Garner, of course Django Reinhardt and above all the unforgotten Traubeli Weiss.It`s a catchy album, an international album whose listeners need only have an open ear and an open heart to understand. And Django Reinhardt, who invented Sinti jazz on his own and had an ingenious talent for improvisation, did not in the least care about defined musical genres and instead combined jazz, traditional Roma music and French folklore into something uniquely new. Ornette Coleman certified him to have arrived at a `pure music`. Stochelo Rosenberg (born 19.02.1968 in Helmond, the Netherlands) is a Dutch sinto and jazz guitarist and he succumbed to this `pure music` as a boy. At the age of 10 he started to play the guitar listening to the original records of his idol Django Reinhardt. At age 12, he won a 1st prize at a music competition. His collaboration with guitarists from the Gipsyswing scene such as Dorado Schmitt, Romane, Angelo Debarre and Biréli Lagrène led to legendary performances and recordings. He founded the legendary Rosenberg Trio with his cousin Nous`che Rosenberg and his brother Nonnie Rosenberg. Swinging gypsy jazz with a touch of nostalgia. (Gerhard Kosel)
