Colie. Biography

Colie is a project from North Queensland Singer-Songwriter & co-founder of Neighbourhood Sessions and Neck Of The Woods Music Festival, Nicole Cross. Colie’s love of storytelling began at a very young age, inspired by her Grandfather and his love of Australian poetry, in particular Banjo Patterson. Sharing sincere songwriting drawn from personal experiences and embracing vulnerability has always come naturally to Colie. Colie is a storyteller at heart, creating crisp clear poetry in music-motion filling the hearts of her listeners with warm assurance.

From Julia Jacklin and Gretta Ray to Johnny Cash and The Police, Colie’s sound has been influenced by an interesting mix of genres. Colie is proud of her folk roots, and her sound has recently been described by Dave Ruby Howe from Triple J Unearthed as a fully realised folk tinged indie sound with an intimate feel.

Colie kicked off 2019 in February with the release of her debut single ‘Sunday News’ through Triple J Unearthed. Shortly after its release, ‘Sunday News’ was premiered on Triple J’s Home & Hosed segment with guest host Alex Lahey. The single also received airplay on Triple J Unearthed, Double J, ABC Local, 2RRR, and many other community radio stations around the country. Sunday News has recently been selected as a featured entry in the 2020 Queensland Music Awards. Colie released her debut EP ‘Bug On A Lamplight’ in May 2019 alongside a music video for ‘Sunday News’. Following the release, the second track from the EP ‘Her Hands’, a love-hate letter to her ancestors, was announced as a finalist in Listen Up’s annual Songwriting Prize, which will take Colie to Sydney’s Factory Theatre for the Grand Final in November 2019. Colie has supported the likes of Lime Cordiale and Greta Stanley and played extensively throughout North Queensland, including at self made Neck Of The Woods Music Festival and Woodfordia’s Festival of Small Halls.

Colie will release a powerful new single on the 24th of October 2019, ‘Half of What You Are’. It is set to be her most personal release yet. Colie opens up in the single about her experience with gender stereotyping, and having different experiences to her twin brother growing up in a small country town in NQ. Colie will hit the road in November and December on a tour of the east coast of Australia - Cairns, Mission Beach, Ingham, Townsville, Mackay, Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne.
