John Southworth Biography
John Southworth is a Canadian pop singer-songwriter. His style, which draws on diverse influences ranging from cabaret pop to New Wave rock, is frequently compared to contemporaries such as Rufus Wainwright, Eric Matthews and Hawksley Workman.
One critic described Southworth's style as "Charlie Chaplin singing Mott the Hoople tunes, backed by a disco band in the process of switching over to skinny-tie era new wave."
Southworth was born in Great Britain and came to Canada as a teenager. He is the son of British songwriter and record producer Peter Shelley, although some newspaper profiles have erroneously credited New Wave pop musician Pete Shelley as his father.
