The Salt Biography

Blending the musical talents of Somerset singer/songwriter Zac Withers and Dorset bassist Ben Eve, The Salt formed in 2015, originally influenced by bands such as Queens of the Age, Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Recruiting drummer, Jason Dominguez, the three musicians started out as a cover band, discreetly recording their own material as a side project. Within a few months, The Salt shifted their focus to developing an ‘Indie’ style that took influence from Two Door Cinema Club and Bombay Bicycle Club. At this point the band completed their frontline, taking on session guitarist Pat Chiverton who has played alongside PJ Harvey and The Wurzels. In summer 2015, The Salt debuted their original material at Jurassic Fields Festival - the first major gig for the band - shortly followed by Anonymous Festival in Dorchester. After months of persistent songwriting and practice, the band was poised, ready to record their upcoming EP. With these tracks firmly embedded in the recording process, 2016 witnessed the busiest year yet, performing at many local festivals including Home Farm, Southcider, and Jurassic Fields (for the second time). The Salt’s much-awaited debut EP ‘Not The Plan’ was released in June 2016, produced by Harry Warren at Humph Studios, featuring the acclaimed track ‘Ebony Irony’. Prior to this release, several members of the band moved to different colleges, quickly ceasing the group's progress. This was closely followed by the departure of Jason (drums) from the band, just weeks before the release of the ‘Not The Plan’ EP. Late 2016 once again saw a reshuffle in the band’s line-up, recruiting a new drummer, Oran Cooch, musician/artist from Dorset, who’d played with the Magic Drum Orchestra at WOMAD and the Larmer Tree Festival. Cooch debuted with The Salt at the Southcider Festival in July. Reforming after the release of their EP, The Salt began writing their debut album ‘All I’m Sayin’’ over winter 2016, finishing the recording of the album in the summer of 2017. On 22 September the group released ‘Drive’, their first single from the album, and plan to release a further single, ‘I Want That’, late November. The full album, ‘All I’m Sayin’’, is due to be released in December 2017. Dynamic 4-piece indie rock band from SW England Zac - Vocals/ Guitar Pat - Guitar Ben - Bass Oran - Drums/Percussion
