Intuition Biography

Intuition is the name 1) a synthpop group and 2) a hip hop artist.

2) Intuition sees the world differently. He extracts humor from the mundane, locates heartache in humor, finds comfort in that heartache, and develops stress out of that same comfort. Where most would see a straight line, he tends to see a circle.

Intuition has garnered quite a buzz in the Los Angeles underground hip hop scene, and has been praised by fans and peers for crafting extraordinary lyrics and honing an energetic and precise stage show in conjunction with his trusty DJ, murjONE. His recently released album, Stories About Nothing, is a highly anticipated and widely lauded venture that is entirely produced by the phenomenal Equalibrum and is noteworthy both for the beauty of its sound and the intricacy and suggestiveness of its lyrics.

Intuition was raised in North Pole, Alaska but currently resides in Southern California; throughout his travels his love for rap music has flourished and intensified. His list of influences ranges from A Tribe Called Quest all the way to Wu Tang Clan, and in Equalibrum he found a creative partner with a similar breadth of musical vision. The heavily layered, sample-based beats found on Stories About Nothing serve as a mellifluous accompaniment to Intuition's engaging and involved narratives. The interplay is so dynamic and successful that Intuition's vocals often resemble another sample attentively placed over the harmonies by Equalibrum, while the music's groove pushes the intriguing storytelling forward.

Intuition and the backbone of his stage show, murjONE, have shared the stage with acts like Method Man, Little Brother, Rhymefest, Blackalicious, Sage Francis, Living Legends, Swollen Members, Binary Star, Busdriver, Pigeon John, Zion-I, LA Symphony, Paul Barman, and Sixtoo, and many others. Intuition and murjONE’s energetic and well planned sets contrast sharply with the unintelligible, rowdy, hypemen-centered performances that have come to characterize the genre's live expression; this devotion to fine-tuning their craft and projecting a sense of professionalism ensures that fans past, present, and future will continue to follow and support the efforts of these young musicians with zeal.

1) Intuition is a synthpop act that is definitely proud of the "pop" aspect of the electronic underground. The superb vocalist sounds like a mix of Reagan of the popular modern synthpop band IRIS and Andy Bell of the classic act Erasure. His great vocal range and catchy melodies will stick in your mind. If mainstream commercial radio cared about independent bands and played Intuition, they'd be an instant hit.

Intuition is the duo of vocalist Garrett Miles and programmer Ken Porter. Their singles, "Two", "Staring Off At Nothing" and albums, Further and Overworked and Underplayed (2006) were released on A Different Drum Records in the U.S. The latter, re-titled Stronger for the European market via Infacted Recordings. Hailing from sunny Phoenix, Arizona, Intuition has taken the music world by storm with their infectious and unforgettable sound. Fusing together elements of techno-pop, R&B and traditional rock with an electronic backbone, Garrett's smooth and soulful voice gives the synthetic wizardry a warm richness and unique trademark rarely found in today's commercial music world.

Following the demise of the popular synth act, Intact, in the summer of 2001, Germany raised Ken Porter set out to form a new band with a new vocalist. Ken wanted someone whom shared his vision, focus, and desire to produce music which would cross genre boundaries and appeal to a mainstream audience. After a chance meeting with Garrett, who had been gigging with local Phoenix headliners, World Conspiracy, in mid 2001, the two quickly hit it off and decided to follow their dream together. The chemistry between the two was evident from the start. Garrett brought over several demo versions of songs he was working on and allowed Ken to inject his magic in to them. The rest, as the old cliché says, is history.

Shortly thereafter, Garrett and Ken started to write and record new songs together at their respective studios. Almost immediately, they began to appreciate each others talents and a mutual respect grew from their partnership. Garrett has an uncanny knack for writing catchy, hook-filled songs of love, eternal optimism, and hope. His diverse vocal range and ability to hit highs and lows with ease rivals many of today's success stories. A design engineer by trade, Ken delivers his deft programming abilities to create a cohesive blueprint of the unique Intuition sound. Using their talents, Intuition completed remixes for the popular bands De/Vision, Camouflage, Iris and others within the electro-pop genre. They also licensed the dance pop infused track "Beside You" to Konami for the X-Box game Dance, Dance Revolution, as well as their song "Words Don't Mean A Thing" to the movie Turn Around due out in September of 2007.

Intuition has received worldwide positive feedback and praise for past efforts. The 2007 special edition release of Stronger, which includes several previously unreleased remixes, on Infacted Recordings will undoubtedly secure their popularity. Following a short Germany tour in the fall with De/Vision, the duo will head back to the studio to commence with work on their third LP due for release in 2008.
