Johnny Azari Biography
Johnny Azari was born in Shiraz, a city known for wine, poetry, opium, and revolution. At a year old, he was relocated to a city known as New York; noted for grit, madness, money, and proliferation, where he was raised. When Johnny isn't on tour, he lives in New Orleans writing and recording. These things have no influence on him whatsoever.
Music bio:
"...his gravelly voice reminiscent of Johnny Cash at his most elegiac." - The Gaurdian
Johnny Azari (New Orleans ) plays his own form of the Mississippi Delta-Blues. Azari has been on national tour since 2013 and is recording his fourth LP, "Songs From A Motel Room," exclusively in motels during his 2016 tour. Azari has scored film (“Illusions & Mirrors,” starring Natalie Portman), served as guest lecturer and performer at Brown University and seen two of his videos, “Occupation Blues” and “Freedom Glory Be Our Name” gain viral success.
Standup bio:
"Azari’s comedy is precisely observed yet delivered with a breezy, bluesy air, in the tradition of Bill Hicks, George Carlin, and other ruthless truthtellers who came before" - Nola Defender
Johnny Azari (New Orleans) delivers a high-energy show about life on the road, ten years as an almost-famous rock & roller, and political/social satire. Azari performed at the Sacramento Comedy Festival, headlined in New Orleans, Minneapolis, and Knoxville, and filmed his debut hour special, "The Revolution Will Be Hilarious," in Brooklyn during his 2017 tour.
"An unexpected degenerate with the best vocabulary I've ever seen." - J.c. Ratliff
