Becca Hess Biography

Growing up in a professional music family, some of west coast recording artist Becca Hess’s earliest memories are singing in the back seat of her dad’s truck (award-winning performer and BCCMA Hall-of-Famer Kenny Hess) as he toured the country and performed shows. Was there ever any doubt that she would naturally gravitate towards the stage and the spotlight? Becca never stood a chance……

Fast forward to 2019, and this gifted young performer, songwriter and industry entrepreneur is poised to stake her claim as an up-and-coming artist in her own right. Becca’s influences are classic – and so is she – but her sound is all her own. With her feet firmly planted in country roots and an eclectic, fresh and organic approach, Becca’s big, rich voice and compelling performances have been scoring attention across western Canada, while her songs are finding
an audience all the way to the east coast. This is no cookie-cutter country cutie – this is a young woman who can truly sing and has something to say. From her ink-black hair and tattooed sleeve to her unruffled poise and articulate, wry observations on life; Becca is a girl – and an artist – out of the ordinary. Nominated for both BCCMA ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’ and ‘Rising Star’ awards in 2017, she is ready to continue adding to an impressive list of achievements with the release of this highly anticipated CD.

Equally at home on the intimate stage or in front of festival crowds, Becca has opened for major country artists such as Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Travis Tritt, Trooper, Wynonna, Dwight Yoakam, The Band Perry and many more; performing in front of sell-out audiences at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival and Rockin’ River Music Fest. Her self-released debut single “It Ain’t Even Raining” worked its way up the Canadian charts, and the accompanying video aired for 6 weeks on TNN’s Top Ten as ‘Rising Star’ – no small feat for a new indie artist.

After releasing singles “Fool My Heart” and “Mountain Child”, Becca was recognized with 2016 ACMA nominations for ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Video of the Year’ and ‘Female Vocalist’; and appeared on a Viceland Canada series titled ‘Payday’, offering a look at up-and-coming Canadian and American artists as they struggled to make ends meet and brought their dreams to life. The cameras followed Becca for two weeks while doing just that: bartending, playing shows, writing songs and working production on Three Days Grace concerts.

Indeed, this gifted young performer and entrepreneur is no stranger to the flip side of the music industry, with nine years of producing tours and major festivals under her belt. Spending time on big stages has been just another day at the office for Becca, and this ability to wear multiple industry hats with ease has only served to hone her impressive music chops, and develop the musicality, passion and sense of ownership she brings to every performance she delivers. Not to mention the ‘it’ factor…..

2016 found Becca heading back into the Vancouver’s acclaimed Armoury Studios to record her sophomore album under the production guidance of Tom and Carly McKillip – both recipients of CCMA ‘Producer of the Year’ awards. 2019 has arrived as the year of truth for Becca: the long-awaited “Truth” is the result of those sessions. The newly released project is a carefully curated collection of original songs – co-written by Becca with Byron Hill, Aaron Goodvin, Bryan White and other Nashville hitmakers – that showcase real musical authenticity, an intriguing vulnerability, potent vocals and the unvarnished perspective of a true artist.
