About this concert
Join acclaimed Northeast Ohio singer-songwriter Ryan Humbert for the 11th Annual Ryan Humbert Holiday Extravaganza on the historic stage of the Akron Civic Theatre for THREE intimate cabaret performances to benefit the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank. These special performances will feature Humbert’s honky tonk band The Shootouts – including guitarist Brian Poston, drummer Dylan Gomez, bassist Ryan McDermott, pedal steel guitarist Al Moss, and Ryan’s longtime singing partner Emily Bates. This Americana variety show will also feature special guests The HawtThorns from Nashville, TN and northeast Ohio singer-songwriter Gretchen Pleuss, along with a different surprise guest at each performance. This year’s show will feature a blend of holiday classics and songs from The Shootouts’ critically acclaimed worldwide debut album “Quick Draw,” which spent over nine weeks on the Americana Radio Album Chart during the summer of 2019. The album has taken the band all over the country, and nabbed them a nomination for “Best Honky Tonk Group” at the 2020 Ameripolitan Music Awards, taking place in Memphis in February. The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is a nonprofit organization with a vision of a thriving community free of hunger. This year, 1 in 7 people in Northeast Ohio will face hunger, and the Foodbank will be there to help. The Foodbank is the source of emergency food for nearly 500 food pantries, hot meal sites, shelters and other hunger-relief programs that directly serve individuals and families in Carroll, Holmes, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties. In 2018, the Foodbank helped provide access to food for 24.5 million meals to its network of hunger-relief partners. During each performance, the Foodbank will be collecting non-perishable food donations to help those in need, including their “Super Six” most needed items -- boxed cereal, peanut butter, canned tuna, canned vegetables, canned beef stew and canned soup. Akron AAA Auto Club, Associated Underwriters Insurance, FirstEnergy and The Summit WAPS-FM are the official sponsors of the Holiday Extravaganza. Tickets are $20 for general admission or $35 for two (date night special). Tickets are available now at the Akron Civic box office at 330-253-2488 and online at www.akroncivic.com or at all Ticketmaster locations.

The Shootouts Biography

Hailing from Akron, Ohio, The Shootouts are known for their energetic fusion of Americana, alt-country, honky tonk and Western swing that Shootouts fans often refer to as “country music for people who don’t like country.”

They have shared the stage with luminaries Marty Stuart, Asleep at The Wheel, Steve Earle, Sheryl Crow, Jim Lauderdale, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Charley Crockett, Radney Foster, Chris Isaak, Raul Malo, Chuck Mead, Kim Richey, and many more. The band also performed an official showcase at AmericanaFest 2021 in Nashville.

After releasing their acclaimed 2019 debut Quick Draw, the band charted Top 50 on Americana radio, and in 2020 were nominated for an Ameripolitan Music Award for “Best Honky-Tonk Group.”

Produced by Grammy-nominee and BR549 founder Chuck Mead, the band’s 2021 release Bullseye has been praised by a range of outlets including Rolling Stone Country, American Songwriter, Wide Open Country, The Boot, and The Bluegrass Situation, amongst others. The album spent over eighteen weeks on the Americana Music Association Top 30 album chart -- including three weeks in the Top 10 – and has received regular airplay on Sirius XM Outlaw Country. The album also reached #1 on The Alt-Country Specialty Chart, #1 on The Roots Music Report Country Albums, #1 On The Roots Music Report Americana Albums, #42 On The Americana Music Association Most Played Albums Of 2021, and was named by the Country Mile UK as one of the Top Five Albums Of 2021. The album was also featured on Spotify’s Pulse of Americana playlist and in rotation on Sirius XM’s Outlaw Country channel.

The Shootouts recently released their third album, “Stampede,” co-produced by 10x Grammy-winner Ray Benson, lead singer of Asleep at The Wheel, along with his son Sam Seifert. The album features guest appearances from Benson & Asleep at The Wheel, plus Americana heavy-hitters Marty Stuart, Buddy Miller, Jim Lauderdale, and Raul Malo (of The Mavericks). Recently, the band was nominated once again for “Best Honky-Tonk Group” at the 2023 Ameripolitan Music Awards and named by the Nashville Scene as a “Country Artist to Watch” for 2023.

Stampede was released Feb. 24, 2023 on Soundly Music -- the same day The Shootouts made their Grand Ole Opry debut as part of their twenty city "Stampede" album release tour, which also included an official showcase at SXSW. The album has spent over 13 weeks in The Americana Album Chart Top 10 (reaching #4 on 4/4/23), #1 on The Alt-Country Specialty Chart (3 times!) and was named one of the “Most Anticipated Albums Of 2023” By Saving Country Music, Wide Open Country, And Glide Magazine.

The rest of 2023 saw the Shootouts return to the Grand Ole Opry two more times, play their first arena show, and perform 90 shows in over 24 states!

QUOTES:

The Shootouts do it all: Great songs, great pickin’ and always lookin’ sharp. Stampede encompasses all forms of American roots music, which is no small feat to do well. You’ll be singing along in no time! If you don’t already know The Shootouts, you will now! - Ray Benson

Effortlessly combining western swing, Americana and roots sounds, and honky-tonk twang into a scrumptious and satisfying punch that goes down easy, Stampede gives The Shootouts’ signature style an extra little kick. - No Depression

(Stampede) has the feeling of a well-seasoned standby, thanks to a series of songs that boast instant appeal and an approach that’s both fresh and familiar all at the same time. The Shootouts have accumulated the credibility that ought to ensure their upward trajectory continues unabated, bringing eager anticipation for whatever happens to follow from this point forward. - American Songwriter

A lively mix of Americana, honky-tonk, and Western Swing. - Uncut

The Shootouts mix supple Western swing with brash barroom country to A-plus results — it’s a match made in honky-tonk heaven. - Rolling Stone Country

(The Shootouts) pull from many different threads and construct a beautiful garment. - Buddy Miller
