Performing over 140 shows during this period through Europe, the US and the UK, the young Australian’s live presence continued to grow, both as a headliner and main support for the likes of ?James Bay? and Lukas Graham?.The threads of new music began to form for Hein Cooper during his time living in Cornwall, where British coastal life provided an outlet for him to reflect and muse on the wealth of new experiences touring “?The Art of Escape?” had brought him.The first entry in this new chapter was “?Hear My Voice?”, a song about falsehoods and self-constructed versions of ourselves. Co-Produced by ?Will Hicks? (Ed Sheeran, James Hersey) and the singer himself in the UK, the result is fresh; the foundations of the Australian’s folk/indie pop styles are still present, though the songwriter has begun exploring other genres such as R’n’b and electronic music. Artists like Frank Ocean and Chet Faker helped inspire this new direction. The same approach is also apparent in “?Over Again?” first single of his upcoming second album: “The song is about disbelief, the denial you feel when something you thought was going to last forever ends. I tend to get overly involved in things so I'm prone to these kinds of situations.” said Hein Cooper about this second excerpt from his upcoming album.Of his new material, the singer/songwriter says, “It’s the music I’ve always wanted to create. Being involved on the production side of my music [too] is allowing me to really capture the bigger picture.”“I think we’ve had enough time to see what styles are melding well together and what aren’t,” Cooper says of cross-genre work, moving forward. “There’s this new confidence to the ‘anything goes’ attitude of the last ten years.”“I think a pop song can be incredibly poetic and still clear, and also be an exciting mix of genres. That’s what I’ve aimed for throughout my new music.”“?Fear of Missing Ou?t”, the second excerpt from the upcoming album is another example of his ability to mix genres. “[This song] is all about my experience with partying, drinking and carrying on. I’ve been around the ‘party lifestyle’ a lot as a musician and I’ve been really hungover in a lot of random places but I still find myself doing it again anyway. This song is about that feeling of being torn between these two worlds.”

Hein Cooper Biography

Most renowned for his indie folk radio song ‘Rusty’ (Over 20 Million Spotify Streams / 239K Shazams), Hein Cooper is returning to his signature style with new single ‘Letters on My Skin’ released on the 15th September via LIVINGSTONE RECORDS. Written and recorded with Marcus Paquin (The National, Julia Jacklin) who produced his critically acclaimed ‘The Art of Escape’ released in 2016, the single captures feelings of nostalgia around personal and relationship growth using the metaphor of tattoos.

This dreamy indie folk number stays true to Hein’s roots, with hooky melodies intertwined within an ambient blend of organic and inorganic elements, all centered around his smooth vocals and acoustic guitar. Drawing from his time in Quebec, having toured through the french speaking Province of Canada through the summer whilst laying down the track, the unique alternate musical influences of the area have definitely found there way into the song, including Half Moon Run, Franklin Electric fusing into his bigger indie folk influences of Nick Mulvey, Hollow Coves and Ben Howard.

‘I’m just enjoying releasing music with no real plan at the moment, the song feels unique to itself so it might just be another stand alone single, although I am busy working on a lot more music I plan to release soon.’

‘I actually made a point to get the exact tattoo I sang about in the song…a moon shaped wave whilst I was in Montreal’

‘It felt significant to get something tattooed on my body that meant a lot to me if I was going to release a song about it, and a crescent moon shaped as a wave was combining my love of water and the ocean with these crescent moons which kept coming up during the huge period of growth in my life recently, it’s like something has clicked and everything is falling into place, and these moons are always there in the corner of my eye….’

Even the video clip was shot in Quebec, with local filmaker Yann Bissonnette (Hybrid Dynamic Media) featuring Hein wandering through the city of Montreal and the surrounding forest and lakes.

‘The idea was to capture the feeling of being in a dream, and being able to create your own life the way you want it, in the way that you can really get anything you want tattooed onto your body if you’re not afraid of it.’

The video glitches in and out of seemingly different points in Hein’s life, capturing the nostalgia of looking back on the amount of growth that he’s been through.
