About this concert
The Galleons bring you some of the finest music on the circuit today with three great bands playing two sets each across the evening in one of Brighton's best small venues. GREENNESS are a folktronica duo featuring English musician and producer Graham Pratt and French singer-songwriter Cess Frangi. Their debut EP 'Bicephaly' (2016), a collection of songs where intricate guitar melodies meet vocals both powerful and fragile, tells stories of love, loss, dreams and visions. With airplay on the BBC and a performance at The Royal Albert Hall it's clear their blend of acoustic textures, beautifully sung vocals and subtle electronic wizardry is finding a receptive audience. JOE WILKES is a songsmith through and through. His guitar playing is outstanding but never overstated, supporting beautifully crafted songs that reference the troubadors of the 60s folk revival but brought bang up to date. With insightful lyrics and and a willingness to take on important subjects from the political to the personal it's not hard to see why Joe is so well respected on the circuit. We're very excited to have him join us for a rare Brighton appearance. The Galleons music wanders a line between folk and indie stopping off to visit rock, blues and occasionally prog along the way. The songs are often simple and direct but the band also love creating huge musical soundscapes, whilst appreciating the often forgotten importance of a catchy hook . As at home playing in a candle-lit cellar as they are in a sunny festival field, their music takes the audience from foot stomping folk-rock, to mellow, mysterious lullabies and back.

The Galleons Biography

The Galleons are a six-piece Indie-Folk band from Brighton. Their melodic, spell-binding music cuts a dash between traditional British Folk and modern Indie. As at home playing in a candle-lit cellar as they are in a sunny festival field, their music takes the audience from catchy, foot stomping folk-rock, to mellow, mysterious lullabies and back.

In the past year they have played gigs and festivals across the UK, including a memorable set at a Techno festival in Yorkshire! They have played numerous live radio sessions at the BBC and beyond, recorded their debut album, featured on Tom Robinson’s and BBC Introducing play lists and recorded in a dungeon!

Support slots at sold out shows with The Blockheads, This is the Kit, American Alt-Folk luminaries Dark Dark Dark, Strand of Oaks and cult Indie band The Wave Pictures have highlighted their versatility and led to headline shows at some of the UK’s best venues. The band have been making good use of the internet and have sold CDs in 16 different countries including one to Gabon, although the Sub-Saharan tour is still in the early stages of planning!

Each listener seems to compare them to a different artist. This year so far they have had Low, Tunng, Fairport Convention, Belle & Sebastian, Trembling Bells, The Grateful Dead, Arcade Fire, Pentangle and Bonnie Prince Billy.

“One of the UK’s most exciting and original new bands, start with folk and then throw in a bit of almost everything else to create beautifully crafted songs, that stick in the mind long after the last chord has rung.”
The Stables

“This is lo-fi folk-inflected pop, for sure, but it has all the substance of old oak timber ingrained with tradition and polished by skilled artisans.” www.instrumentali.com
