In summer of 2016, local MD acoustic guitarist and songwriter Dylan Galvin packed up everything into a small Honda and drove 3000 miles to the city of Los Angeles. His plan was to take the music scene by storm, begin a furious grind and establish himself in the city of angels. Things didn't work out as planned. After one year of the most intense work he'd ever experienced he had almost gone through $10,000 of savings, was having trouble finding gigs, had no plan B, no safety net and was on the verge of calling it quits for good. Everything he had ever known: his family, friends and fans were across the country and he was growing fearful he was going to return home with a tale of failure. This was the make or break of his entire music career. Desperate to not give in to the temptation of a steady but unrelated day job, he began searching on Craigslist's for any gigs possible. That's when he inadvertently stumbled upon what would be the start of a completely unexpected movie career. He began answering casting calls to video productions, since most of the gigs he searched for on the L.A. Craigslist ended up being video gigs, not music gigs. He started auditioning for short films, commercials and online projects. Ironically, he had almost no theatre or film experience. He had taken one theatre class during his years at Patuxent High School and was plagued for an entire year by stage fright leading up to his end of the year monologue. Stage fright had kept him from ever pursuing acting, and almost kept him from even being a musician for many years. But this wasn't a class in high school, this was the real adult world and there was no other option. It was do or die. Almost immediately, he started getting cast. Within a few months he landed a national commercial for Intel Computers another for Samsung, dozens of short films and a starring role in "Nightingale" a movie about a struggling musician who finds a diary on the ground, and is faced with a dilemma to steal lyrics from it in order to land a record deal. (dir. Gowtham Namasivayasam). The movie has won several wards on the indie film circuit and there are plans to make a feature (full length) film based on the short in 2020 which Dylan will star in. Not long after he began doing movies, the music picked back up and Dylan is now in full swing once again, recording writing and performing live in Los Angeles. As his following on the West Coast has begun to grow, Dylan couldn't stop thinking about his hometown and where everything started. After several months of planning, he finished and lined up his 2019 tour to Southern Maryland, which is aptly named: "As far as the East is from the West" Taken from Psalm 103:12, the title of his tour is a description of God's forgiveness and love is as far reaching as East is from the West, which is infinite. "Being raised in a small town on the East Coast right near the Chesapeake Bay and then moving to the polar opposite kind of place is very hard" says Galvin. "You miss home, you miss those little things you might not have really noticed that much before..the stillness of a pond on a summer afternoon, a tiny beach with only a couple other people at it, those familiar faces you see about town when you go out for dinner". You don't get that in a city of millions and millions of people. It's all just people grinding away, day after day. So yeah as much as I love doing movies and music out here, this kind of career is always about the people who support you." Also, he credits this string of events to God, since he believes the circumstances that have come to fruition as a result of his move to L.A. would have been impossible without divine intervention. At his shows he will be performing his original song "The Chesapeake", an ode to the his years growing up in Southern Maryland. Dylan Galvin Biography

I believe there is a stark difference between entertainment and art. Art can be entertaining and entertainment can be artistic, but they should never be confused. Entertainment is like cookies. Cookies are great but when you make them the staple of your diet, they have an impact on your health. I say this as a person who has a day job as an entertainer, so I'm not saying entertainment is bad, but when it's most of your diet, it effects you. Entertainment tells you what you want to hear, but art tells you the truth.

I also believe music is a gift from God and that this places an extra importance on the way musicians create and use it. I'd like to bring people's focus back to the story of the song, where the heart of it really lies. You may have already noticed that in the last few decades, popular music seems to be dipping to new lows in order to garner attention. There isn't much storytelling in the lyrics of much of what's being released. It seems the mainstream is out to pander to you as much as possible to make a quick buck.

In contrast to a superficial one, a good story can change, inspire and challenge you. It can leave you a different person after you've heard it because behind a good story is something better than the story itself; meaning. l introduce you to a world where art has meaning and music tells stories; a 5-day storytellers experience where you'll get downloads of my original music, the stories behind them, interviews, lyrics and more for FREE. After that, you'll have access and privileges not available to the public. Handmade jewelry, gorgeous photography, behind-the-scenes access, videos, demos, and things you'll never find with a major label artist will be waiting for you. It's a whole lot more than MP3's and keychains. No strings attached. No sign up cost. Leave whenever you want. You can talk to me directly at any time, day or night, ask me questions, just say hi or even....tell me your story.
