About this concert
Brandon Goldberg - pianoBen Wolfe - bassDonald Edwards - drumsBrandon Goldberg, now 13 years old, began to play piano by ear when he was three years old. He started with classical lessons at age five, but quickly found his passion for jazz and learned about the music and its history by listening to his favorite artists including Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane, just to name a few. Brandon recently released his debut album, “LET’S PLAY!” to rave reviews garnering four stars from Downbeat Magazine and reaching number seven on the Jazz Week charts. “LET’S PLAY!” features veteran musicians Ben Wolfe on bass, Donald Edwards on drums and special guest Marcus Strickland on tenor saxophone. The album has three original compositions and six standards and is inspired by pianists Brandon considers his heroes - Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner and Herbie Hancock. “LET’S PLAY!” is imbued with pure love and joy for the tradition of jazz music. Most recently, Brandon performed at the 2019 Newport Jazz Festival. He has also played at the Litchfield Jazz Festival, Dizzy’s Club, Bravo Niagara Festival of the Arts, The Apollo Theater, Blue Note in New York, WDNA Radio, WDNA Miami Downtown Jazz Festival and the FAENA Summer Jazz Series. Brandon has been a featured performer with The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) and the Jazz Roots series. Brandon has also performed at TEDxCoconutGrove, TEDxBocaRaton and TEDxYouth@Miami. He’s also appeared on the Harry Connick Jr. Show, NBC’s Little Big Shots and the Steve Harvey Show. In both 2019 and 2018, Brandon was named Downbeat Magazine’s Student Music Awards winner in the Jazz Soloist and Outstanding Original Composition categories. Brandon works closely with the Jazz Foundation of America (JFA) and performed at the JFA annual Gala – A Great Night in Harlem at the famous Apollo Theater in New York, where he presented McCoy Tyner with his Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Through his love for music, Brandon has helped raise funds and awareness for various charitable organizations including Jazz Foundation of America, Israel Bonds, Jack Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, Debbie’s Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer and City of Hope.
