Anthony Maintain

Anthony Maintain cut his teeth in the bustling indie hip hop scene of Boston, MA in the early 2000's. For a decade plus he fronted The Locksmiths, in the classic duo format of MC and producer (alongside beatsmith, Cozmos), releasing their debut self titled album in 2006. They performed heavily in and around New England, and in 2008 capitalized on the momentum with their sophomore album, ?Skeleton Keys.? In 2009, the duo relocated to Austin, TX and began playing extensively in their new geographical region, garnering a loyal fanbase in the Southwest. After releasing their third studio album, ?Subterranean Sound System,? in 2010, the band went their separate ways amicably.
At this point, Anthony had started dabbling in beat making just as Austin, TX asserted itself at the forefront of the analog beat scene. Maintain dove head first into live instrumental performance with ATX experimental beat crew Exploded Drawing, and in 2013 released his solo instrumental debut, ?The Elephant Race?, on (iN)Sect Records. After years of honing his skills on samplers, drum machines, and laptops, Anthony felt the pull of writing and recording lyrics once again. His live show evolved into a one-man-band act featuring both instrumental and vocal songs, often playing live beats while rapping, with a spoken-word piece thrown in if the occasion lends itself.
Between performing with The Locksmiths and solo, Anthony has shared the stage with acts including Aesop Rock, Kool Keith, Run the Jewels, P.O.S., Aceyalone, Ceschi, Homeboy Sandman, Open Mike Eagle, Milo, Astronautalis, B Dolan, Awol One, George Watsky, DJ Z-Trip, Blackalicious, Busdriver, Black Milk, Dark Time Sunshine, C-Rayz Walz, 7L & Esoteric, Vast Aire, and many more.
This Fall, Anthony Maintain will release his long-fomenting solo rap record, ?Plugging Holes In The Same Leaky Boat,? via Milled Pavement Records. The album is his first entirely self-produced vocal album, and features guest appearances from such underground stalwarts as Onry Ozzborn, BRZOWSKI, and more.
