About this concert
Socially conscious and musically excellent, the musicians of the Detroit-based Sphinx Organization perform a timely program that promotes justice and peace. Michael Abels’s Global Warming speaks to the environmental crisis while celebrating diverse cultures, and Philip Herbert’s moving string piece memorializes a teenage victim of racial violence. There’s also a new work by Xavier Foley co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall, and classics by Schubert and Bartók.
