Haze Mage Biography

(Formerly known as Blood Mist)

Baltimore, Maryland in late 2015, drummer John De Campos, with the intent of creating riff centric metal used as an anthem for exploring dark mystical forests, cutting down monsters, and slinging spells gathered Kevin Considine (Guitar), Nick Jewett (Guitar), Scott Brenner (Bass), & Matthew Casella (Vocals) to riff the riffs of the warrior and craft the sounds of battle waged.

Thus Haze Mage was formed, together building a towering stone castle of sound that traverses various subgenres of metal and stepped into the battlefield and began performing in March 2016.Since then Haze Mage has gone onto perform with such acts as Valient Thorr, Slough Feig, Cough, Asthma Castle, Fog Hound, Black Lung and others.

Within a year, Haze Mage had become a sonic force in the Baltimore metal scene and caught the attention of Grimoire Records, who produced and released ”Haze Mage” Blood Mist EP, which was l released in February 2017 to critical praise.

“Across the 25-minute outing, the relative newcomers show marked cohesion of purpose in taking cues from early, pre-self-parody Danzig as well as Candlemass, but even with those names as core influences, I wouldn’t necessarily tag them as only being a doom band. Certainly those elements are there, as one can hear by the chugging slowdown that finishes opener “Burn the Trees” as much as the foreboding guitar and cymbal wash interplay that begins the subsequent “Blood Mist,” but guitarists Kevin Considine and Nick Jewett, vocalist Matt Casella, bassist Scott Brenner and drummer John de Campos (also artwork) pick up into near-High on Fire onslaught later in their eponymous cut. With the sense of drama that Casella brings to his approach, in places calling to mind Scott Reagers as well as the likes of Witchfinder General and others from the NWOBHM, everything Haze Mage do on this offering just feels that much bigger.” - The Obelisk
