The Monorchid Biography
Monorchid rose from the ashes of Circus Lupus, a DC band that put out two incredible records on Dischord. After their breakup, two alums went on to form Las Mordidas that had a 7" out on Compulsiv/Dischord, which, after a few member changes, turned into Monorchid.
The members were: Chris Thomson, Chris Hamley, Andy Coronado, Andy Cone and Tom Allnut
After the lineup solidified, Monorchid appeared on four 7"s - their debut 7" on Lovitt Records, the Lovitt Empire comp 7", a 7" on the San Diego-based Gravity Records and one on Simple Machines Records.
The Monorchid's 1997 debut album, Let Them Eat....The Monorchid, was recorded by J. Robbins of Jawbox at Inner Ear studios and received critical praise. Tracks like 'Oral Fixation Anonymous' and 'Midget Housing' are standouts.
The band's second album was entitled Who Put Out The Fire?, released on Touch and Go in 1998. Continuing their unique brand of post-punk guitar squawk and high-energy noise, Who Put Out The Fire? is considered by many to be the pinnacle of the Monorchid's short-lived but highly influential career.
Chris Thomson and Andy Coronado went onto be in Skull Kontroll.
