About this concert
An international music project, pushing the boundaries of contemporary folk. Featuring Montreal cellist Karine Bouchard, Moray fiddle player Peter Menzies and percussionist Alex Auldsmith with Ewan Macintyre on vocals, guitar and mandolin. Live shows are filled with rich string arrangements, ripping solos, soaring harmonies and heartfelt lyrical content, bringing to mind the celtic blues/ soul of artists Van Morrison, Paulo Nutini and Eddie Reader. Led by puppeteer, musician and ex-lead singer of the award-winning Edinburgh collective Southern Tenant Folk Union, Ewan Macintyre has a rare ability to pen songs in a range of styles. Like many Scottish artists, Ewan crossed the Atlantic to develop his sound, earning his spurs through years of hard touring across Canada and Europe. His recent album Road Junkie is a culmination of that work bringing together some of the finest talent in Quebec, British Columbia and Scotland. Ewan has been a self-employed artist since the age of 19, working primarily as a musician, puppeteer, sculptor and builder. As a musician and composer Ewan has worked in theatre, film solo and with band projects. Highlights of his career include collaborating with Hidden Orchestra for Big Man Walking (singing to crowds of over 10,000 people on top of cherry picker outside Holyrood Palace and again in Glasgows George Square for Merchant City festival 2014) as well as supporting Hot House Flowers in 2013. In 2015 he released his first solo album “You Probably Look Better Naked Anyway” which was rated #3 in the Canadian National Folk Roots Charts, setting him on a mad journey touring his band of troubadours across Canada and Europe.

Ewan Macintyre Band Biography

Mixing all the appealing sounds of Celtic groove, Americana folk, and stripped back-soul, Ewan Macintyre and his band take the listener through dazzling folk roots stories—filled with pizzicato cello and fiddle strings, warm and wavy guitar hooks, and of course, Macintyre’s raw, but soothing voice.

(album) 'Dream On Sally' is an aural painting designed to free the soul from the delusions and nightmares of constrained existence. A beautiful sound urged to roam free! 8.5/10 Ian D Hall, Liverpool Sound and Vision 2020

This May 2023 celebrates the release of Ewan's fourth record; Twenty First Century Fool, recorded over lockdowns and curfews with a seven piece band in Montreal, Quebec, and finished on the Isle of Skye. The album features signature lush string arrangements and a two original Scottish Gàidhlig compositions, marking the end in a series of 4 records over 8 years in Quebec.

In 2014 Ewan ventured to Canada where he created his first solo E.P. You Probably Look Better Naked Anyway (#3 national folk/ roots charts of Canada). This album spiraled into 4 cross Canada tours and tours in Europe, where he developed his sound and honed his skills as a band leader and songwriter.
Following a brief hiatous after the COVID pandemic, Ewan picks up the pieces with his brand new release, accompanied with some short tours around the UK and Canada.

Ewans music has been featured on the BBC and CBC as well as in various plays and soundtracks. As ex member of Ruby & the Emeralds and award winning band‘Southern Tenant Folk Union’,he has performed on RTE’s ‘The Late Late show’, ‘The View’ and BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends.
