Garish Biography
Founded in 1997 while still at school in native home Burgenland, Austrias easternmost county, Garish made themselves a household name in the local alternative circles quickly. Early on they were supporting greats from Alanis Morrissette to Red Hot Chili Peppers and releasing highly acclaimed albums in 2000, 2002 and 2004 respectively, all of which got nominated for the Austrian Music Award "Amadeus".
A career spanning more than 25 years now, the group's popularity among their fan base is still growing steadily. The band enjoys cult status for their albums and energetic live performances. More recently, the albums "Trumpf" (2014) and "Komm schwarz Kater" (2017) reached the top 20 of the Austrian Album top 40 and raised the number of nominations for that very award to 8 (they never won, but who cares at this point).
The band's music, famous for its unique instrumentation and highly lyrical approach with a certain richness in metaphors, is often used in film and television, for example prominently in the crime series "Spuren des Bösen". Garish are Thomas Jarmer (vocals, accordion), Markus Perner (drums), Julian Schneeberger (guitar) and Kurt Grath (bass).
