Selektah

Do you sometimes listen to a record and get the feeling that you need so shout of all the rooftops how good this particular record it is? It was of this ongoing excitement, that Robin Prak decided to DJ under the name of Selektah. Growing up with reggae music and having found the first deep spiritual feeling in the form of an uncontrollable love of music with his intense affection of old ska and roots reggae and visiting reggae nights and concerts as a teenager. This is where the name Selektah comes from. To be clear though: reggae is most definitely not the only genre of music Robin has a deep connection with. Not quite soon after being a toddler came his joy of listening and buying hardcore and rave singles. Also during this period dance music with a lot of house influences were there. Thinking of then. also his dad introduced to him a lot of the dance music of that time with the likes of Snap, Robin S, 2 Unlimited, Robert Miles and the Turn Up The Bass collectable compilation CDs It was the year 2009 when his first performance in the locally famous underground dance club Simplon was a fact. After that a dj duo he started with a friend was in high demand with and already had a gig a week when they only just begun. The definite apex until was when the first time they played in Amsterdam during late 2011. A crowd was on fire, there was a line in front of the door, it was jaw-breaking. Through the years the dj duo 'Druktemakers' performed alongside numerous electro, dubstep and drum ‘n bass headliners. Also during this period, Robin was a resident selector at the most famous and oldest pop venue of Groningen: VERA. Big names like U2, Nirvana, Joy Division, Pearl Jam, The Libertines and The White Stripes performed at the same place. Since 2011 the small but very cozy club Subsonic was introduced to the two from origin drum 'n bass heads. The amount of gigs Druktemakers and Selektah has done combined are certainly more than two figures. Since late 2012 the shifted the attention to four-to-the-floor beats and producing with this rhythm. In he 2013 booked dutch house boss De Sluwe Vos at Vera, during his night Let It Beat: a big success and right in time before he went ‘really big’ and played on all the summer festivals. 2014 mostly has been a year of looking back and enjoying the magical world of electronic music; at the same intensity, but in a different way. a) resident, promoter and producer b) daw enthusiast c) bangs his head and dances occasionally (never trust that you haven never seen dancing)
