Be swept away by the wonder, magic, and breathless virtuosity of masterpieces by Grieg and Mahler. From its famous opening flourish, Grieg’s concerto thrills with bold keyboard writing, but its stream of gorgeous melodies—many suggesting Norwegian folk songs—are also stunning. Mahler’s symphony flirts with folk themes too, but it’s only one facet of a magnificently scored gem that opens with the evocative sound of sleigh bells and culminates in a child’s sweet song extolling heaven’s joys. Part of: Carnegie Classics Boston Symphony Orchestra is also performing April 14 and April 15. Performers Boston Symphony Orchestra Andris Nelsons, Music Director and Conductor Genia Kühmeier, Soprano Leif Ove Andsnes, Piano Program GRIEG Piano Concerto MAHLER Symphony No. 4
