Anne-Sophie Mutter—the “undisputed queen of violin-playing” (The Times, London)—is featured in three of Beethoven’s most popular works, plus the New York premiere of a composition by Jörg Widmann, holder of this season’s Debs Composer’s Chair. The openhearted, free-flowing melodies of the “Spring” Sonata provide a striking contrast to the emotional intensity of the “Kreutzer,” while the eerie trembling effects from the piano in the slow movement of the D-Major Piano Trio earned the piece its “Ghost” nickname. Part of: Great Artists I, Jörg Widmann, and Beethoven Celebration Anne-Sophie Mutter is also performing October 3 and June 12. Performers Anne-Sophie Mutter, Violin Ye-Eun Choi, Violin Vladimir Babeshko, Viola Daniel Müller-Schott, Cello Lambert Orkis, Piano Program JÖRG WIDMANN New Work for String Quartet (NY Premiere) BEETHOVEN Violin Sonata No. 5 in F Major, Op. 24, "Spring" BEETHOVEN Piano Trio in D Major, Op. 70, No. 1, "Ghost" BEETHOVEN Violin Sonata No. 9 in A Major, Op. 47, "Kreutzer"
