JT Curtis Biography

Since he began playing guitar at the ripe age of 8 years old, JT Curtis’ life has been dedicated to music. With his virtuoso guitar chops, gutbucket vocals, and explosive energy, Curtis’ burning desire to play music has taken him from Los Angeles to New York City, where he made his Broadway performance debut in LET IT BE, also touring with the production since 2015.

Such is the theme of Curtis’ latest release, ONE LAST STAND, a high-energy concept album that takes you across the great divide: a journey from adolescence to adulthood. Curtis

released the album in 2015 just before hitting the road again for a North American tour. The album featured a recording of “Bootleg Gasoline” which was also made into a music video in 2016. Renowned San Diego radio personality, Jim McInnes, has referred to the record as “One of the best recordings I’ve heard in a long time.” The album is now available on CD or through Amazon / itunes.

Curtis began his career leading his the all-star L.A. band 7th Sun. In 2008, the band released their debut album FROM THE BEGINNING, featuring Adam Kury (Candlebox), Stephen Quadros (Snow) and Micheal Russeck (Quactus) Produced by Curtis, the album was nominated “Best Independent CD” by Southbay Music Awards, and praised by Music Connection for the band’s musicianship, particularly Curtis’ guitar work: “JT Curtis' formidable fretwork recalls the likes of Clapton, Allman, and Page.” The album is still available across the internet.

Near the end of the decade, Curtis stated a notable YouTube series called “One Man Band,” where he covered classic rock songs, performing all the instruments himself (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and vocals). In 2010, JT Curtis produced his first solo release, the funky rocking MAKE IT TO THE BRIDGE / THE UNCIVILIZED CITY. With provocative lyrics and intense gut-grabbing music, this single is a must-have!

Unable to clone himself for live performances, Curtis formed his own band, Mad Mongoose, collaborating with New York's top musicians (Arthur Migliazza, Darcy MacRae, Tetsuya Sato, and others). The band uploaded a live performance of the Curtis penned funk-rock tune, “Shake it Off,” featuring Curtis’ masterful slide work and Migliazza’s dynamic piano playing. “Shake it Off” became am irresistible fan favorite, leading Curtis to officially release the song in 2013, backed with another original tune, “No Room to Move.”

Beginning 2015, JT Curtis began hosting a YouTube series called “The History of Rock & Roll” discussing the genera’s history decade by decade, with a little help from his friend Nick Patrella.

Curtis has backed up many powerful artists and groups. In 2013, he was a featured performer in the Broadway musical LET IT BE. In 2009, he performed for Jimmy Carter’s 85th Birthday with the award winning St. Genevieve High School chorale. Curtis has also worked with Shooter Jennings, Oscar Brashear, Nite-Time, Starlight Orchestras, Becky and the Blu-Tones, eTheReal Soul, The B.O.L.T. and countless others.

Back in the studio, JT Curtis is a producer, engineer and writer for television; having produced several production pieces for music houses in Los Angeles and New York: CBS, Ed Wood Music, Bing Bang Boom and Man Made Music. Don’t call it selling out, we all gotta pay the rent!
