About this concert
The Galleons organise a bi-monthly night were they invite some of the finest bands on the circuit to play a gig with them! Genre is not important just creativity and good tunes, who only listens to one type of music right? Each band plays a set in each half at one of Brighton's very best small venues. Come and see why this is one of the most talked about live music nights on the South Coast. We are very excited to be hosting a rare Brighton appearance by Son of Kirk. Informed by a diverse set of scenes ranging from psychedelic, post and progressive rock, minimalism and 1960's revivalist folk and blues, SoK create their own unique take on modern acoustic driven music. To give their sound a name, prog-folk or post psych-blues would both be accurate. SoK combine interweaving guitar and violin lines. Melodic vocal and lyrical interplay; intense instrumental interludes, moments of fragile naïve beauty and uplifting songs of hope and redemption. Award winning saxophonist and composer Matt Anderson presents his quartet touring their new, critically acclaimed release 'Rambling'. Since its launch in June 2018 the album has won praise from the likes of Jazzwise, BBC Radio 3 and Jazz FM for its outstanding, melodic writing and uniformly excellent playing, all fronted by Anderson's warm tenor sound. The band brings together seemingly distinct musical influences, exploring the common ground between the folk music of Matt's rural upbringing in the North Yorkshire Moors, the bluesy, country strains of Bill Frisell and Scandinavian jazz, culminating in a lyrical and personal Afro-Celtic sound world. Your hosts The Galleons return with new additions both in terms of personnel and songs! Having spent time in the studio the band are well rehearsed and keen to keep evolving! 'One of the scene's most exciting bands seamlessly blend a mixture of folk, indie, rock and the occasional hint of prog to create songs that sing in the ears long after the last chord has rung' The Stables 7.45pm £6 All advance ticket holders receive 20% OFF their food bill. The Galleons Biography

The Galleons are a six-piece Indie-Folk band from Brighton. Their melodic, spell-binding music cuts a dash between traditional British Folk and modern Indie. As at home playing in a candle-lit cellar as they are in a sunny festival field, their music takes the audience from catchy, foot stomping folk-rock, to mellow, mysterious lullabies and back.

In the past year they have played gigs and festivals across the UK, including a memorable set at a Techno festival in Yorkshire! They have played numerous live radio sessions at the BBC and beyond, recorded their debut album, featured on Tom Robinson’s and BBC Introducing play lists and recorded in a dungeon!

Support slots at sold out shows with The Blockheads, This is the Kit, American Alt-Folk luminaries Dark Dark Dark, Strand of Oaks and cult Indie band The Wave Pictures have highlighted their versatility and led to headline shows at some of the UK’s best venues. The band have been making good use of the internet and have sold CDs in 16 different countries including one to Gabon, although the Sub-Saharan tour is still in the early stages of planning!

Each listener seems to compare them to a different artist. This year so far they have had Low, Tunng, Fairport Convention, Belle & Sebastian, Trembling Bells, The Grateful Dead, Arcade Fire, Pentangle and Bonnie Prince Billy.

“One of the UK’s most exciting and original new bands, start with folk and then throw in a bit of almost everything else to create beautifully crafted songs, that stick in the mind long after the last chord has rung.”
The Stables

“This is lo-fi folk-inflected pop, for sure, but it has all the substance of old oak timber ingrained with tradition and polished by skilled artisans.” www.instrumentali.com
