Calicos Biography
When The Calicos take the crown in Humo’s Rock Rally in the spring of 2018, their melodic americana leaves people hungry for more. They release a number of well-received singles and embark on a busy tour schedule, but for their debut album these six young guns from Antwerp want to take their time and reach for the sky.
Fast forward to 2020, the year the world came to a standstill. The Calicos resurface in summer with the single ‘Nova’, a graceful and majestic earworm that reaches #1 in Radio 1’s renowned VOX chart and initiates the descent to the long-awaited album.
The Soft Landing arrives on 28 May: nine diverse songs covering the entire spectrum between americana and indie rock, yet forming a coherent and warm record. The music (pedal steel guitar included) is firmly rooted in the tradition of Wilco, Ryan Adams, Jonathan Wilson and The War On Drugs, but The Calicos master the skill to distil their own sound out of these rich influences.
The album is produced by the band itself, with help from living legend Firmin Michiels, and once again mixed to perfection by Tobie Speleman (blackwave., Geppetto & The Whales, EMY, The Haunted Youth).
After three years The Calicos are ready to appeal to a wide audience of music lovers and develop into an alternative pop group with the ability to reconcile generations.
