Soul Rebels Biography

The Mystiks was formed through a series of impromptu jam sessions, with founding members coming from locally based bands such as Soul Rebels, Jah soul, and Demoliton Crew. Jonny Dreads and The Mystiks have had the honor and pleasure of opening for The Original Wailers, Mike Love, and a host of other popular acts. With collective influences such as Bob Marley, The Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, OutKast, and a plethora of others, the blend of funky soulful reggae is what you get. Jonny Dreads and The Mystiks have been huge on the festival scene and that has opened doors and broadened horizons for the members. Jonny Dreads-(guitar, lead and backing vocals, musical director of The Mystiks) has played music all over the world with notable time being spent in Asia and Alaska. His major influences are Bob Marley, The Grateful Dead, OutKast and Midnite. His father was the musical director of the church he grew up in. Jonny played trumpet and piano until he picked up his fathers guitar. Reggae great Seefari took him under his wing and on tour and introduced him to the ways of reggae music. Skabone Stan-(trombone, harmonica, lead and backing vocals) has been playing reggae and ska music since 1985. He has a background in jazz, funk, and blues as well as reggae and ska. He has performed and recorded with many bands of different styles throughout Ohio and California. Eric Henry-(guitar and backing vocals) has a background steeped heavily in blues and soul. He has played with blues greats such as Piney Brown and The Reid Brothers. His take on the band is...This is what Hendrix would sound like if he played reggae music. Justin Moore-(drums) loves exploring different elements of reggae drumming through one drop, rockers, and steppers. Rooted in funk and jazz he has played with several bands in the Dayton area. His uncle introduced him to the drums and has been his biggest influence. Bryan 'Hazy" Russell-(keyboards and backing vocals) has toured with nationally accredited songwriter Marc Imobeden. He has opened for Kenny Loggins and played with Tommy Tutone. His influences are SRV, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder and The Roots just to name a few. Hazy plays in a host of other bands as well as The Mystiks. Greg Lewis-(bass and backing vocals) Greg's love for playing reggae music is evident in his presence on stage. He can lock in the groove and hold it rock steady. He was excited to be able to open for O'Teil and The Peacemakers as that is one of his biggest influences. Erich Reith-(various forms of hand percussion) enjoys playing all the world rhythms and has a strong interest in reggae, funk, soul, and rock. He has been performing with the belly dancers and period musicians at the Ohio Renaissance Festival for 15 years. He's also played with several local bands of all genres since 1991. This guy plays his heart and loves sharing his gift of music with everyone. Tony Doctah X (FXTICIAN/DUBMEISTER) Harrington is better known as Doctah X. He is a singer, DJ, and musician who operates the House Of Dub Studios in Columbus, Ohio. He also hosts a radio program on WCRS Columbus. We play reggae and have fun.
