He later focused on the saxophone, becoming prominent in the New York scene and one of the small group of Americans of Indian heritage exploring the fusion of post-bop with Indian classical music. He has shared the stage with, amongst others, Eddie Henderson, Mike Stern, Kenny Garrett, Joe Chambers, Charlie Persip, The Temptations, The Four Tops and Bernard Purdie, and he has also played and studied with Carnatic and Hindustani masters Selvaganesh, Trichy Sankaran, T.A.S. Mani, Ganesh Kumar, Subash Chandran, Samir Chatterjee, Sufi singer Zila Khan, and the iconic 1970s cross-over star Asha Puthli. His Konnakol Jazz Project has performed worldwide, including Japan, Italy and Australia.
