Steve Taylor-Ramírez Biography

Steve Taylor-Ramírez is a Pandora-played singer-songwriter named a Critic's Choice by the Bay Area News Group, the East Bay Express, and events staff at UC Berkeley. He plays a mix of folk-rock, Latin and blues that listeners say crosses boundaries.

A former guitarist for the house band at Park Boulevard Church in Oakland, Steve has performed at many popular Bay Area venues, and shared bills with artists of note such as Tania Libertad, Debbie Neigher, Misner & Smith, Alexis Harte, Essence, Pamela Parker, violinist Tony Marcus and guitar virtuoso Mike Glendinning.

“Steve's songs are about things that are important,” said Dj Nobody of KUSF radio, San Francisco. “Plus, he’s an awesome guitar player with his own style.” J. poet, music critic for the East Bay Express, wrote: “Critic's Choice: Fancy finger picking, weathered vocals ... charisma ... socially conscious originals.” Said pianist/composer Michael Wolff (former music director for Nancy Wilson and The Arsenio Hall Show): “Steve's killin' it!”

A review of Taylor-Ramírez in live performance appeared on Berkeley Patch news site: http://berkeley.patch.com/articles/steve-taylor-ramirez-plays-cal-day. A video of his novelty song “My Baby is a Robot” earned a coveted spot as the opener of “Explosion Bus,” the hilarious web series featuring Jonathan Katz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uriwk9VYMCU&list=UUU02Xy907cquTF_F2Weltvw&index=7&feature=plcp).

Steve plays regularly at popular Bay Area venues. His songs have aired on radio stations KALW, KUSF, KYCY and KECG. He's appeared live on NPR affiliate KALW, KUSF, KALX and Pirate Cat Radio (San Francisco, Los Angeles and Berlin). His TV appearances include Univision's evening news, Berkeley's BTV Ch. 28 and late performance-artist Frank Moore's Shaman's Den. His songs play regularly on Pandora.

Steve took a band to Oakland's Skyline Studios and recorded six original songs. Corey Mason, host of worldOneradio, called the EP "warm, rootsy and genuinely charming" and gave it regular airplay on KECG 88.1 FM, El Cerrito. Music editor Rachel Swan featured the album at the top of her East Bay Express column. KUSF's Dj Nobody (who fills Bay Area venues as comic Edna Miroslava Raia) called it, "Lovely! … Steve's developing a new musical genre."

When performing, Steve Taylor takes the name Ramírez from his great grandfather, Ignacio Ramírez, who served as an education official for Mexico's reformist President Francisco I. Madero.
