About this concert
Emerging from one of the eddies in the independent undercurrent of Brisbane’s 90s music scene, the past 2.5 decades have been of ceaseless reinventive spirit, playing with form and flux, the affection of self-parody, ever ambling a rickety bridge of modus vivendi, all bagged up with an effervescent outsider enthusiasm that has never left their skin. And now... to pound the quarter century mark with a fully blown visually rehabilitated retrospective of a show straddling a holographic hyperbole of antiquated technology, trawling the analogue back through the digital. And when it comes to those ubiquitous lists... Maybe 11 ALBUMS or so if you count the live, Jingles compilation and latest kids release; EPS surely must be 7 of these at least... and in their time maybe 16 singles, a few 7inches and 5 or so DVD releases. And MUSIC VIDEOS feels like maybe 47 or so of those... SHIRTS jeez, must have been close to 120 or so designs spread across... approximately 905 PERFORMANCES or thereabouts including maybe 25 national headline tours, 6 Big Day Out tours, so many festivals you could poke a stick at... along with some great times playing with DEVO, Boredoms, The Prodigy, TISM, Audio Active, CIV, The Mint Chicks, Ratatat, Senyawa, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Helmet, The Melvins and more including the odd collaborative excursions into theatre, dance, live soundtracks and generally just bent on allowing an unstable ingenuity... and on that note who could forget 21 days inside a glass BUBBLE! Whatever the extent of this output means in the greater scheme of things the obvious consistencies have always been the open pursuit of creative probity, humour above serious intent, sustainable mentalities above any need for dominance, and about as honest unto themselves as possible - whomever that might be? All in all just playing to the ad-hoc... making it up as it goes. Joining us for this head-brush of a warp drive through our times is none other than Japan's coruscating icons of sugar punk power popsters SHONEN KNIFE, along with erstwhile compadres in the mirthful upending of contemporary culture THE FAUVES. As well as featuring the always welcome festival invitations including CALOUNDRA MUSIC FESTIVAL on SUN 6 OCT, and LOST LANDS in Werribee on SUN 3 NOV (which also feature ever bending kids adventure POGOGO SHOW) we also present 2 days of extended celebration in hometown BRISBANE featuring on Saturday from 5.00pm - DICKLORD, TOTAL PACE (tbc?) and FAT ; and on Sunday from 3.00pm - KOKO UZI, THE STRESS OF LEISURE and SCREAMFEEDER . REGURGITATOR Quarter Pounder - 25 years of being consumed. With guest superlatives at selected stores... SHONEN KNIFE & THE FAUVES

Regurgitator Biography

REGURGITATOR formed in Brisbane late stage '93 by Quan Yeomans and Ben Ely, along with drummer Martin Lee - the debut live show March 1994 for Friends of the Earth. Current drummer, Peter Kostic joined late ‘99. They have released numerous EPs and albums recorded in dubiously idiosyncratic scenarios: TU-PLANG (1996) in the jungle canopy outskirts of Bangkok; the pixel obsessed 80s jolt of UNIT (1997) in a condemned Fortitude Valley warehouse as demolishers waited outside; …ART (1999) in a sun soaked Byron Bay beachside house lapping up the waves; EDUARDO & RODRIGUEZ WAGE WAR ON T-WRECKS (2001) amidst the red bricks and cigar smoke of (Gang of Four) Andy Gill’s London lounge studio; MISHMASH(2004) in a glass panopticon installed in Melbourne's Federation Square as part of the disruptive Band in a Bubble pastiche of reality shows; LOVE & PARANOIA (2007) in a bullet riddled studio in Rio de Janeiro under the looming rock arms of Corcovado with a gang of dueling Brazilian sound engineers; SUPERHAPPYFUNTIMESFRIENDS (2011) in Ben's old Melbourne shopfront; and DIRTY POP FANTASY (2013) in a Hong Kong skyscraper apartment; along with the more recent meta-virus album #9 HEADROXX (2018) that was fabricated over the internet across cities and time. In the past near on 29 plus years they have toured all over Australia, NZ, Japan, UK, Europe, USA, Asia and the Middle East along with numerous festivals including the Big Day Out, Clokenflap, Reading, Fuji Rock, Groovin’ the Moo, The Falls, Meredith etc. Always drawn to the odd they collaborated with dance choreographer Gavin Webber on the live music/dance project ‘Rock Show’; worked with the Handspan Puppet theatre on Raised by Wolves for the Melbourne Fringe; performed a self-written live soundtrack to Japanese film AKIRA at the Sydney Opera House; reproduced the debut Velvet Underground album inconjunction with Chinese collaborator Mindy Meng Wang; the cinema release of the one off UNIT20 performance; and flippin' eggs with the riotous kid fun of the POGOGO SHOW… among other weird trips down that spiral of light fantastic. Still touring and flooring it recently performing the sold out 2023 UNITS tour of Australia… more than ever they find themselves extending the vitality of their live performances, continuing to infuse them with exuberance, mania and their mashedup motion of rock, punk, electro, funk, pop, hiphop... wherever the tune goes vibes. New album brewing in the can.
