About this show
WINNER BEST CABARET EDINBURGH FRINGE 2019 BROADWAY WORLD. Miss Hope Springs was once the toast of Las Vegas. Now she’s down on her luck and highly medicated. Join this recovering showgirl, live at the piano, for an array of all-original songs from her vintage lounge repertoire. You’ll hear toe-tapping show tunes, finger-snapping pop and heartrending ballads. All interspersed with hilariously scandalous stories from her Ritz-to-the-pits life in LA, Paris and... Dungeness. Still draped in the sequins and feathers in which she fled the Pink Pelican Casino in 1972, this ageing ingénue is no has-been. She’s the ultimate never-was. “Think Minnelli meets Manilow, minus the lucky breaks” explains Hope’s creator: composer, lyricist, pianist, comic actor and singer Ty Jeffries. “Growing up, I was completely absorbed in Golden Age Hollywood and I’m hugely influenced by artists such as Peggy Lee, Judy Garland and Lena Horne. Unlike them, with her backstory of career wrong-turns and a spectacularly disastrous love life, Hope is the tragi-comic essence of all those showbiz ladies who never made it.” “Tragi-comic genius” Julian Clary “The greatest star that never was sings the greatest hits that never were. Fabulously talented“ Jonathan Ross Arts Show BBC Radio 2 “Clever, classy funny...The songs are genius...Go see” Marc Almond

Miss Hope Springs Biography

Comedy cabaret chanteuse ‘recovering showgirl’ turned lounge act, Miss Hope Springs, plays the piano and sings songs from her all-original, self-penned, vintage repertoire and recounts torrid tales from a career that started out in in the early sixt…I mean seventies. One the toast of Las Vegas (now down on her luck and heavily medicated) you’ll hear hysterical stories from her disastrous 'Ritz to the pits’ life, interspersed with songs about her various paramours - from Liberace to Barry Manilow - and she spills the beans about what it’s like to live with her husband Irving and his hairdresser pal Carlos in a camper van in Dungeness. Still wearing the sequinned pantsuit she left the Pink Pelican Casino wearing in 1972, Hope brings you her sizzling blend of finger snapping pop, romantic rhumbas, sassy bossa novas and smouldering torch songs in this unique laugh-out-loud, move-you-to-tears show. Join Hope as she opens her battered 'suitcase of dreams' to share more magical musical mementos.
