About this concert
Andy Warhol's silkscreen paintings, the cheeky song for JFK's birthday, white skirt billowing over a New York City subway grating. The foundation of Marilyn's icon was her unique blend of childlike innocence and provocative feminine sexuality. Despite her indisputable fame of "bombshell", and one of the world's famous actresses of her time, Marilyn largely contributed to set the standards of the Jazz and Swing golden age in the 1940s/50s. Her breathy brassy voice singing My Heart Belongs to Daddy, I'm Through With Love or Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend are history. Today, 57 years after her death, having premiered to sold out houses, and gained excellent reviews in its 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival season, Viviana Zarbo reinterprets her songs - masterpieces composed by geniuses such as Cole Porter and Irving Berlin - in a personal way, devoid of clichés surrounded by amazing jazz musicians, Chris Neill on piano and Stephanie Legg on saxophone. Viviana creates an atmosphere in which some tales of Marilyn's life are intertwined with tales from the singer's own life, and Marilyn's role as an artistic model which shaped Viviana's career is recounted through the great diva's songs. "Viviana Zarbo very much knows how to hold an audience imagination… the audience could not keep their eyes from the stage" - The Jazz UK ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- The Southside Advertiser - "Slickly paced with a nice vintage jazz feel...that natural ability for singing and performing is something that Viviana shares with Marilyn" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- Edinburgh Guide - "Viviana brings a sensuous, soulful mood and manner to her own modern interpretations...Ms Zarbo exudes vintage glamour as she relates Marilyn’s short, tragic life-story with charming humour, heartfelt emotion and exuberant vivacity." Marilyn Remembered fan Club Est.1982: - "Marilyn herself once said: I won't be satisfied until people want to hear me sing without looking at me" so I like to think that Monroe would definitely give this show her approval!"
