About this concert
MAPS & SYNECDOCHES – ALBUM RELEASE TOUR What makes Tony Malaby (USA) one of the most sought-after saxophone players in the New York scene, is his originality and unique sound. From Paul Motian’s Electric Bebop Band, the Liberation Orchestra of Charlie Haden, Fred Hersh, Ches Smith, Mark Helias, Kris Davis, or Tubacello to the Tamarindo trio (with William Parker and Nasheet Waits), Malaby has had a significant influence on contemporary improvisation. With this trio, he is joined by keyboard wizard Jozef Dumoulin (Lidlboj, Octurn, The Red Hill Orchestra feat. Ellery Eskelin and Dan Weiss), and the young but extremely promising Belgian drummer Samuel Ber (Kris Defoort, Nic Thys, Bo Van Der Werf, Guillaume Orti, Bram De Looze), with whom they effortlessly shift between free improvisation and compositions by drummer Ber. “Ber Is An Incredibly Present Drummer – In The Best Sense Of The Word – And Has A Penchant For Angular Rhythms. But He Often Forms An Inseparable Tandem With Dumoulin To Showcase Their Preference For Steamingly Hot Music. In This Environment, Malaby Blows Fragile And Intense Notes, Without Forgoing Coarser And Unpolished Moments.” – Draai Om Je Oren “Maps and Synecdoches” received an album release in December 2018 at BOZAR (Brussels). Inside Jazz Biography

Welcome to Inside Jazz Management, a music agency that has made it its mission to help Belgian jazz artists build and manage their careers on an international level. Oh, and make no mistake: Jazz may well be the cornerstone of everything we do here, but Inside Jazz’s musicians aren’t afraid to take their music far beyond as they often flirt with Americana and classical music or rock and avant-garde.

Every day, our team - Jens Tytgat, Bram Gobbers and Bastien De Clercq - collaborates closely with our musicians, in our office in Ghent or on location. we help them book concerts and organize tours in and outside of Belgium. We also take care of promotion, advertising and communication with the press, organizers and programmers to make sure that their projects get the spotlight they deserve.

We’ve worked together to bring about critically acclaimed album releases with local and international labels to capture some of their unique projects – many of which you’ll find on our website (www.insidejazz.be) or on our YouTube and Facebook pages.

But with Inside Jazz we also wanted to establish something more profound, to cement our strong Belgian musical heritage and spread our music to the world. So we’ve also collaborated with organizations and events such as the Belgian Jazz Forum and Belgian Jazz Meeting to bring the music that is at the center of everything we do closer to you. Of course, we’re immensely proud of our Belgian music and that pride and enthusiasm can’t be contained within our Belgian borders. That’s why we do everything we can to bring our artists and their music everywhere in Europe and beyond!
