About this concert
Dreadzone play our headline show for Cork Ska & Reggae Festival  Saturday 27th July 2019 FREE ENTRY - NO TICKETS REQUIRED One of the most energetic, exciting and powerful live bands to emerge from the post-rave scene, Dreadzone have steadily been releasing albums and progressively bettering, refining and perfecting their own unique and inimitable take on dub since their inception in 1993. Still going strong after over 25 years in the game they have also long been and still are, one of the best live bands around. Heading into 2019, Dreadzone continue to move forward as a 5 piece, after parting ways in 2018 with their guitarist after 10 years, and are focusing more on the electronic and dub elements of their stage show – a sound they developed in earlier years of Dreadzone. Their old skool dread sound comes bubbling to the surface on new album ‘Dread Times’ which digs deep into their dub and reggae roots whilst still keeping the beats fresh and the textures electronic. Dread Times is the band’s 8th studio album and the 3rd release on their own Dubwiser label. The album stormed into the Top 40 UK Official Album Charts on release – the first time the band have charted in over 20 years. The album also made the Top 10 in the Indie and Dance Charts.

Dreadzone Biography

Dreadzone is a british band whose music is an eclectic fusion of dub, reggae, dance, and folk. They have so far produced four studio albums and one live album.

Dreadzone formed in 1993 when ex-Big Audio Dynamite drummer Greg Roberts teamed up with Tim Bran, who had previously worked as a musician and sound engineer for Julian Cope. The name 'Dreadzone' was suggested to Greg and Tim by Don Letts.

Tim and Greg were soon joined by bassist Leo Williams, also formerly of Big Audio Dynamite. The band signed to Creation Records in 1993 and released their first album 360°. The following year the band signed to Virgin Records and released their second studio album Second Light. In the meantime, Dreadzone had become a favourite festival act and in June that year played the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival.

John Peel championed Dreadzone on Radio 1, and cited Second Light as one of his favourite albums of all time. Tracks from Second Light also dominated Peel's Festive Fifty in 1995, and the band recorded six Peel Sessions between 1993 and 2001.

Between 1998 and 2001 the Dreadzone Soundsystem hosted the popular Dubwiser club night at Notting Hill Arts Club.

Dreadzone recently performed at the 2005 Bestival music festival held yearly on the Isle of Wight, however they also regularly tour the United Kingdom playing smaller venues.
