About this concert
Hold on to your hay cart — the fabled trickster Till Eulenspiegel is back at his merry pranks! Join the Grammy-winning Seattle Symphony as Richard Strauss takes us on a wild ride with music’s most lovable troublemaker. The effervescent Oboe Concerto revisits Strauss 50 years later, after he befriended an American soldier and oboe virtuoso in Germany at the end of World War II. Seattle Symphony Principal Oboe Mary Lynch comes front and center for a fresh reading of this alluring showpiece. In Jeux, Debussy fleshes out a kinetic tableau of tennis and other flirtatious games. The radiant Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin shines the spotlight on Wagner and his explosive, futuristic approach to the orchestra that impacted both Strauss and Debussy so profoundly.

It was a truly wonderful performance. The pianist, Steven Osborne, was a delight to watch and hear perform - very talented. Same goes to the conductor, Kevin John Edusei - and what a style! It’s worth mentioning that his blazer was supremely epic. Bravo!
