New Evil Biography
NEW EViL is a highly dynamic, female-fronted alt rock band from Orange County, CA. They have shared bills with the likes of Old Blood, Alice Bag, and Le Butcherettes and were voted Top 5 Most Influential Female Fronted Bands by Orange County Music League.
“New Evil was a very physical act, kicking you in the stomach and the butt, but before anything it was seducing everyone with an ultra-violent-girl-power central character.” –Alyson Camus ,rocknycliveandrecorded.com
The band formed in the spring of 2013. Originally from the San Francisco DIY scene, singer/songwriter Sophia Anita Reyes’ experimental bluesy vocals and politically driven lyrics cut too far outside the lines for most Orange County musicians. After an exhausting search for a songwriting partner, she met guitarist Ian Bishop whose sonorous, reverb-drenched guitar riffs belied his OC roots. They were an instant creative match. Soon, Patrick Nagy came on board on drums and later, Erik Piazza on bass. Together, NEW EViL packs a powerful punch and blurs the edges of alternative, indie and hard rock with a sound that defies genre boundaries.
New Evil puts on a show that is drenched in pure passion for the art of live performance.“Making music that inspires, energizes, and barricades itself at the perpetual fringes of society.” –Indiebandguru.com
NEW EViL released their first self-titled EP in 2014 and followed it up a year later with “II”, another EP that featured the single “The W.” In 2017, they released their first full-length album, A Witch Shall Be Born. The album came out swinging with the raw energy of “Dreamhouse Dollhouse” and “Pale Skin Latin Girls” and also brought the ethereal moodiness of “Michigan” and “Beatriz.” Later that same year, NEW EViL released a single and music video inspired by the tragic discovery of the body of a young boy in the LA River. “King of the River” has racked up over twenty thousand views and remains one the band’s most popular tracks. They are currently in the studio completing a new full-length album slated for release in summer 2022 and can be found performing live all over Southern California.
