About this concert
From the North Eastern suburbs of Melbourne come The Bean Project, a vibrant brass-clad quintet blending the raw sounds of folk, jazz and singer-songwriter - most aptly described as 'the odd marriage of James Taylor and The Cat Empire'. The Bean Project formed as a horn and acoustic guitar duo, playing small shows and busking up and down the East Coast of Australia. After two EPs and a full length album The Bean Project had grown into a five-piece and was performing at Port Fairy Folk Festival, National Folk Festival and Folk Alliance International (USA).2018 brought about a change in line-up, the triumphant sound of sax and occasional electric guitar, and an exciting infusion of soul and groove into eclectic jazzy folk sound. On 25th May they'll be welcoming back bassist Isaac Gunnoo, and putting to work a collection of brand new songs. Good times guaranteed.

Great to be at a venue where people actually sat and listened instead of talking through the sets.

The Bean Project Biography

From the eastern suburbs of Melbourne come The Bean Project, a vibrant French horn-clad acoustic duo blending the raw untreated sounds of folk, jazz and singer-songwriter styles with fresh and unique songwriting - most aptly described as 'the odd marriage of James Taylor and The Cat Empire'.

After completing their studies in music at the end of 2015, guitarist/vocalist Ben and French horn player Bryce let no moment spare in hitting the road. They spent three months taking their intimate stage show across the country, sleeping in the back of the ‘Bean-Mobile’ and playing gigs at every pub, club and bar they could find. For both Ben and Bryce it was a formative and fun but tiring experience, and one that resulted in their reinvigorated second EP.

The ‘Live at Hothouse’ EP features the flagship combination of acoustic guitar and French horn, but also two new Beans; Isaac on double bass and Maddy on drums. The three track EP was recorded at St Kilda’s Hothouse Studios live and uncut, and gives listeners a taste of what The Bean Project have up their sleeve for the future.

Named the 2016 FAA Young Folk Act of the Year, The Bean Project are set to release their second EP 'Live at Hothouse' featuring the brand new expanded lineup in September 2016 supported by their second national tour, visiting Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour and Nimbin.
