The Emerson String Quartet stands apart in the history of string quartets with an unparalleled list of achievements over three decades, including more than 30 acclaimed recordings, nine Grammys (including two for Best Classical Album), three Gramophone Awards, and the Avery Fisher Prize. Formed in 1976 and based in NYC, the Emerson String Quartet takes its name from American poet and philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson and has made more than thirty acclaimed recordings over four decades, including nine Grammy-winning albums.
