Carrington MacDuffie Biography

Far-reaching influences of a lively musical childhood weave through Carrington’s unusual, hook-laden songs, and stand out in her latest LP, “Sweet Little Mystery”. Her new single, "Rebel In The House Of Love," reflects the spirit of independence that runs deep in her lineage, with her forebears having fought in the American Revolution. This maverick spirit inspires Carrington’s artistic practices, her passions, and her calling in life.

A native New Yorker, Carrington’s love for music was sparked in early childhood while cutting up the oriental rug to the records that her dad, a huge music aficionado, was spinning — Teddy Wilson, Herb Alpert, Dave Brubeck, Beethoven, Hudson River folk, '60s pop, Scottish marches, world music, Bob Dylan and the Beatles, among many other artists. A self-taught musician, she began writing songs at the age of 13, later attended several universities eventually earning a bachelor's in English from Boston University, spent half a year vagabonding around Europe, and continued on to work in book publishing while performing at New York City clubs at night. Soon it was time to head for the West Coast where a girl didn't have to cram a drum set into the back of a taxi cab to get to a gig, and where she showcased her 6-piece band in a series of "happenings" in Venice Beach. She developed a career in voice acting and worked as poetry editor for a literary magazine while commuting to the Pacific Northwest, and eventually working out of Austin, spending some years touring in Europe and the UK, focussing on Scotland, where she visited the birthplace of her Scottish Highland ancestors. She has released 6 albums, recorded in Nashville, Austin and Rochester, while producing numerous music videos.

As a voice actor, Carrington has performed narrations for over 250 audiobooks, including biographies of Joni Mitchell, Pussy Riot, and Jack Kerouac. She has also voiced characters in video games, her favorite being the part of a shamanic Scottish dwarf in “World of Warcraft".

To maintain her focus and sanity, Carrington can be found engaging in target practice at the gun range, brushing up her 2nd amendment skills, practicing her custom electric ukuleles, looking for a chopper pilot to take her up above it all or a fixed-wing pilot to continue her training with — in any case being led by her sense of adventure and passion for creativity.
