Glassio Biography

Glassio is the Dream-Pop meets Alt-Dance project of Irish-Iranian songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sam R. Born out of a love for applying a melodic sweetness to brooding dance beats, Glassio has carved out a unique space in the New York City Indie-Electronic hemisphere over the past 5 years, bridging influences from Brian Wilson to Massive Attack to New Order.

The group’s 2016 debut single “Try Much Harder” charted at No. 9 on the US and Global Spotify Viral Charts, paving the way for a series of singles that would cumulate millions of streams online, including “Morning House” and “Back for More.” The Age of Experience EP was heralded by Mother Jones as “proof that electronic music and storytelling are a perfect match,” and led to the group opening for artists like Yelle, Overcoats, Fujiya & Miyagi, Electric, and more.

A debut album, For The Very Last Time, was released in July of 2020. It was subsequently named one of the best electronic releases from July 2020 by Bandcamp and received praise from blogs like Consequence of Sound and FADER. The album garnered over 5 million streams collectively online within its first year, and renowned music blog “This Song Is Sick” named it “an immaculate piece of art.” It features backing vocals from Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Daneshevskaya.

2022 sees the release of Glassio’s sophomore record See You Shine, a 17-track album marrying 80s new wave, 90s-electronica, and 70s-country. Self-described as an “overnight road-trip through the deserts of New Mexico” and “an album about self-discovery in the face of loss,” the record is a spiritual ode to the process of “picking up the pieces after a large boom.”

Outside of Glassio, Sam R. has co-written and produced songs with French Horn Rebellion, Clubhouse, warner case, NAKAYA, and Madelyn Darling.
