Harmonium Duo

Hubert Giziewski and Iwo Jedynecki completed their music studies at Poland’s most important music institution of higher education, the The Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and belong among the most distinguished musicians of their generation.

During the many years of their artistic education, they have worked with such prominent artists as Włodzimierz Lech Puchnowski, Jerzy Jurek, Jerzy Łukasiewicz, Fridrich Lips, Yuri Shishkin, and received numerous honors and prizes at prestigious festivals and music competitions, both in Poland and abroad. Their most important prizes include awards from festivals in Stalowa Wola (1993), Chełm (2001), Mława (2005) in Poland, as well as from competitions in Castelfidardo (2005) and Ibla-Ragusa in Italy (2005).

As soloists and chamber music players, Hubert Giziewski and Iwo Jedynecki appeared at the most famous concert halls and artistic centers in Poland (including the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, and the Witold Lutoslawski Concert Studio S1 of the Polish Radio) and around the world (Suntory Hall in Japan, Carnegie Hall in New York, to mention just these two). In addition, they performed in concert in many countries around the world, including: Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, China, South Korea and USA.

Both musicians perform on Italian instruments made by master instrument-builders from the Pigini company.

In the past fifteen years, the duo has performed many artistic programmes centred around the 19th and 20th c. works for the piano, chamber and orchestra. With their programmes, many of the works of F. Schubert, G. Puccini, F. Chopin, A. Borodin, G. Enescu, W. Lutosławski, and A. Panufnik had been performed on accordion for the first time. The repertoire of the eminent Polish accordion duo reveals a whole palette of artistic and stylistic possibilities provided by the contemporary concert accordion.

The artists have recently also started an innovative artistic collaboration with choirs and vocalists, whose main purpose is an innovative presentation of chamber versions of works by J. S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, G. Fauré, F. Stravinsky, F. Poulenc and K. Szymanowski.

The artistic works of the above mentioned composers and others, thanks to the extraordinary coloristic palette, technical and sonic qualities of the modern accordions gain truly exceptional and unique values in the somewhat unusual setting of two accordions. This music performed by the accordion duo immediately absorbs the attention of the listeners and is always received with a great enthusiasm by the audiences on all the continents.

Jeffrey James, Editor, International Composer, described Harmonium Duo after their April 2006 concert at Carnegie Hall: “Anyone, who thinks the accordion is either dull or not really an instrument fit for classical music hasn’t heard these boys tear up. Performances like this leave little room for anything other than superlatives…I cannot say enough about the high quality of their musicianship and almost inhumanly good integration of sound, so I’ll just leave things at hoping to hear them again very soon”.

Hubert Giziewski & Iwo Jedynecki ukończyli Uniwersytet Muzyczny Fryderyka Chopina w Warszawie.
Należą do czołówki najwybitniejszych polskich muzyków swojego pokolenia.

W czasie wieloletniej edukacji artystycznej zdobyli szereg najwyższych nagród w Polsce i za granicą. Do najważniejszych, należą laury konkursów w Castelfidardo (Włochy) i Ibla-Ragusa (Włochy). Wielokrotnie otrzymywali stypendia naukowe Prezesa Rady Ministrów oraz Lions Club International Warszawa – Nike. Jako soliści i kameraliści występowali w najbardziej prestiżowych salach koncertowych w Polsce, takich jak: Filharmonia Narodowa, Studio Koncertowe PR im. W. Lutosławskiego, a także za granicą, m.in.: Suntory Hall (Japonia), Carnegie Hall (Nowy Jork, USA), Teatro dal Verme (Mediolan, Włochy). Koncertowali także w Austrii, Arabii Saudyjskiej, Bułgarii, Chinach, Korei Południowej, Maroko, Niemczech, USA, we Włoszech oraz na Litwie.

W czasie blisko dwudziestoletniej działalności duet zrealizował wiele programów artystycznych, koncentrując się wokół dzieł fortepianowych, kameralnych i orkiestrowych XIX i XX wieku.

Wiele z utworów, m.in. Schuberta, Pucciniego, Chopina, Borodina, Enescu, Lutosławskiego, Panufnika zabrzmiała w wykonaniu duetu na akordeonach po raz pierwszy w historii.

Artyści współpracują też z chórami i wokalistami, czego owocem są pionierskie prezentacje kameralnych wersji dzieł J. S. Bacha, W. A. Mozarta, G. Fauré, I. Strawińskiego, F. Poulenca, K. Szymanowskiego.

Jeffrey James, wydawca muzyczny, kompozytor, opisał debiut Harmonium Duo w nowojorskiej Carnegie Hall (w kwietniu 2006) w następujących słowach: "Ktokolwiek uważa, ze akordeon jest instrumentem mało ciekawym lub nie pasującym do muzyki klasycznej, nie słyszał chyba dzisiaj tych Panów będących w swoim żywiole. Wykonania takie jak to dzisiejsze, nie zostawiają w komentarzach wiele więcej miejsca obok samych superlatyw. Nie potrafię wystarczająco dobrze oddać słowami ich niebywałego poziomu muzykalności i wręcz nadludzkiej integracji brzmienia, artystycznego zespolenia, więc pozostawiam temat, mając nadzieję usłyszeć ich znowu już wkrótce".
