Tania

A luso-descendente, Tania, primeiro conheceu o fado em criança ao ouvir a madrinha cantá-lo nas celebrações típicas da família. O seu interesse pela cultura portuguesa continuou ao longo dos anos enquanto estudante na Escola Oficial Portuguesa e como dançarina no Grupo Folclórico Ramos de Oliveira de Pawtucket, RI. Com esta paixão pela música portuguesa bem estabelecida, a Tania começou a ouvir e a apreciar os fadistas contemporâneos portugueses e descobriu o dinamismo do fado moderno. Este novo som incentivou-a a explorar o fado tradicional. E foi neste género de música que a Tania encontrou o seu destino e que a voz atingiu o seu esplendor. Nasceu no dia 5 de outubro de 1984 na cidade de Providence, Rhode Island. É filha de emigrantes portugueses naturais de São Brás de Alportel na província do Algarve. A Tania é fluente em inglês e português e possui a sua dupla cidadania, americana e portuguesa. Em maio de 2007, graduou da Universidade de Massachusetts de Dartmouth com o curso de português e em maio de 2013 recebeu o mestrado em educação. Atualmente, a Tania é licenciada e lecciona português. Ao sentir a saudade de cantar o fado e, após a gravação do seu primeiro disco em 2004, “Fado Inspirado”, a Tania pretende continuar a interpretar o fado nas comunidades lusófonas dos Estados Unidos da América, como também no estrangeiro quando as oportunidades surgirem. ___________________________ Portuguese-descendent, Tania first found Fado as a child when hearing her godmother sing in the celebrations that were typical of her family. Her interest for the Portuguese culture continued along the years while she was a student in Portuguese school and dancer in the Folkloric Group Ramos de Oliveira in Pawtucket, RI. With a passion for the Portuguese music already established as a child, Tania began to hear the contemporary Fado singers of Portugal and with them discovered the energy of the Modern Fado. This new sound of Fado stimulated Tania to explore and to appreciate the Traditional Fado. It was this type of music that Tania found her destiny and that reached to her splendor. Tania was born on October 5, 1984 in the city of Providence in the state of Rhode Island. She is a daughter of Portuguese emigrants naturally from São Brás de Alportel in the province of Algarve, is fluent in English and Portuguese and has her dual citizenship, American and Portuguese. In May of 2007, she graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth with her Bachelor’s in Portuguese and in May of 2013 received her Master's degree in “Master's of Arts in Teaching ”. Currently, Tania is licensed and teaches Portuguese. Feeling the longing of singing Fado again and having had recorded her first album in 2004, “ Fado Inspirado ” (Inspired Fado), Tania intends to continue and to interpret Fado between the communities of the United States of America such as abroad when opportunities arise.
