What is Bawdy or Dirty Blues? Journalist Paul Slade wrote, "Are you a good jelly roll baker? Do you need a little sugar in your bowl? And does anybody here want to try your cabbage?" "These and a host of similar questions were put to American record-buyers in the 1920s and '30s, when a craze for surprisingly daring and witty sex songs dominated the early days of recorded blues." "It was the big female stars of this era women such as Bessie Smith and Alberta Hunter who made sure that the first blues records ever released were also some of the most sexually explicit in the history of popular music.' "Many of the singers had a background in vaudeville and this, combined with the white labels' fondness for comic minstrel numbers, produced a flood of joky sex songs. Others got their start in the brothels of gangster-era Chicago, where similar songs were used to keep the punters entertained while they waited for their favourite girl." And it's this music that George and myself celebrate. Songs like King Size Papa, Do your Duty, Sam the Hot Dog Man and many others plus a sprinkling of jazz from the era. You'll laugh, you'll sing along...you might even cry but there is no doubt you will feel the history of this genre - partly because I give it to you between numbers! We look forward to seeing you at The Windsor Castle. The show will start at precisely 8.15pm with a set in between.

From the off it's a full-on lyrical assault, a lung-busting gallop, with melodies and rhythms flying from innumerable instruments, held together with a passion and intensity that you thought disappeared years ago. Meet Charlie, Christopher, Thomas, Theo, Kevin, Deanna and Tom. From their birth 2 years ago, they have gone from playing legendary sets to packed back rooms in the pubs of New Cross, Bethnal Green and Camden to becoming regular fixtures at festivals such as Isle of Wight, Secret Garden Party, Bestival and Boomtown Fair. In fact, they’ve left their undeniable and infectious mark on venues across the entire country, via their debut headline tour in 2014, and as support to drunk-folk troubadour Beans on Toast on his 33 date jaunt across the UK in 2013. Growing up in the capital city and absorbing all the experiences it has to offer has resulted in spiky, acerbic tales from lyricists Charlie and Chris. Heartfelt, with meaning, yet funny and brutal. This is married with a genre defying brew of sounds, that takes you on a madcap circus-like journey all over the world and then back again before the next song starts. With a few single releases via their own BEER BELLY RECORDS cementing their studio sound, they now begin work on their much anticipated debut LP. A stellar production team of some of London’s most iconic musical faces has been enlisted; Chrissy Boy Foreman, guitarist of legendary outfit Madness joins in as producer, and on mixing duties Youth (Echo and The Bunnymen, Killing Joke, The Orb, Pink Floyd) brings an invaluable wealth of experience. With the coming year set to be their busiest yet, and armed with their strongest material yet, Gorgeous George are more than ready for the next leg of their musical journey.
