Audio Reactive Visuals by Integrated Visions Open Beer And Wine Bar Seating will be provided About the Artists: CURRENCY (RAJEEV MADDELA) Currency is the brainchild of Brooklyn based drummer, musician and programmer Rajeev Maddela, who specializes in applying the unique rhythmic phrasing found in bass-forward electronic music such as jungle, UK garage, dubstep and house. CURRENCY is a generative improvisational performance project exploring the spectrum of electronic music via Ableton Live, Max/MSP and MIDI percussion. The project aims to explore the concepts unveiled through mindfulness meditation, within a technologically enhanced, expressive, and improvisational environment. CURRENCY aims to highlight the quality of 'inspired spontaneity', facilitated by stimulating sound design and velocity-sensitive patch programming, resulting in spontaneous and dynamic performances. Under the artist name MADDELA, Rajeev has released a host of singles and ep's on labels such as Noisy Meditation (BM), High Chai Recordings (NY), and Reminiscence Audio (Serbia). His production work spans the genres of experimental drum and bass, future bass, and UK garage, with a focus on live performance elements and wide sonic palettes. He has performed with the likes of Karsh Kale, Anoushka Shankar, Tim Lefebvre, Jonathan Maron, Max ZT, Priya Darshini, and many others from the world and live electronic music scenes. He is a dedicated music pedagogue, serving as an instructor at Msgr. Farrell High School's award winning Marching Percussion program since 1998. He continues in this role, specializing in developing students' technique, expression, and clarity. Maddela also holds a degree in computer science from New York University and has recently been exploring the world of live computer graphics via Derivative TouchDesigner and the camera tracking abilities of the Microsoft Kinect. Critics have called his music “mesmerizing”, “dramatic”, “striking” (Philadelphia Weekly), “notable”, “catchy” (WQHS), “magical” (Local Arts Live), and “special” (Percussive Notes), and have noted that Vidiksis provides “an electronically produced frame giving each sound such a deep-colored radiance you could miss the piece's shape for being caught up in each moment” (Philadelphia Inquirer). His work is frequently commissioned and performed throughout North America, Europe, and China in recitals, festivals, and major academic conferences. Vidiksis’s music has won numerous awards and grants, including recognition from the Society of Composers, Incorporated, the American Composers Forum, New Music USA, and ASCAP. His works are available through HoneyRock Publishing, EMPiRE, New Focus, PARMA, and SEAMUS Records. Vidiksis recently served as composer in residence for the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia for its 2017-2018 season. Vidiksis is Assistant Professor of music technology and composition at Temple University, a founding member of the performance and composition faculty at the SPLICE Institute, a Resident Artist at the Renegade Theater company, and a founding member of the Impermanent Society of Philadelphia, a group dedicated to promoting improvisation in the performing arts. Drawing upon a rich musical history in hiphop, drum & bass, deep house and everything in between, Kian has a made a reputation for himself as an eclectic and well sourced selector, constantly pushing the boundaries of the electronic music landscape. Known for his exceptional mixing ability and "rough with the smooth" stylings, his unique fusion of urban and ethereal sounds has made him a firm favorite of discerning music heads from across the world. Established in 2010, Kian's Noisy Meditation label is dedicated to releasing forward-thinking electronic music from both established artists and newcomers alike. Not restricted to one specific style or genre, the label's focus is deep and emotive music that the listener can connect to on a soul level. In addition to his expertise as DJ and curator, Kian is one of the most versatile and innovative producers on the electronic music scene today, with a body of work that ranges from lush and soulful to edgy and experimental.
