Miss Leo Biography
Miss Leo is is gaining recognition on the California Coast not only for the creation of her kickass bluegrass band, Miss Leo & Her Bluegrass Boys, but also for her solo pursuits as a skilled songstress.
Miss Leo is a folk and americana singer-songwriter born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, currently residing on the Central Coast of California. Said to have starting singing before she could form sentences, Miss Leo has been called to music for as long as she can remember. Upon begging her non-musical parents for piano lessons at age 5, her musical journey began at an early age. She later switched to guitar at age 12 and never looked back. She wrote her first song at age 15 and began performing live while still in high school. After moving to Santa Cruz to go to college, Miss Leo continued seeking opportunities to play gigs and experimented with other genres of music, including a year spent studying opera at UCSC. After graduating with a degree in Language Studies, Miss Leo's life took a hiatus in pursuing music and instead she followed her heart to Yosemite's remote High Country where she worked and lived for several summers, traveling and dirt-bagging through foreign countries in the off season. In 2016, she moved to San Luis Obispo County where she soon began gigging as a solo artist once again and a year later formed the band, Miss Leo & Her Bluegrass Boys.
The delivery and quality of her singing and guitar playing together echo the sounds of many decades past. Truly Americana in style, Miss Leo is authentically old-time in her song choice, sharing sonic memories of American music's history. Her original songs tell stories from her life experiences with words and melodies that have the power to connect emotionally with all who listen. Her powerful voice has been described as angelic, mesmerizing, and likened to Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, and June Carter. In her music you can hear influences from classic American songwriters from throughout the 20th Century meddled with traditional bluegrass and modern folk sounds. Purposefully minimalist, Miss Leo writes catchy and creative folk songs with lyrics that draw straight from the heart.
